#BlackHistory365 Dr. Clarence Bayne is president of the Black Studies Center of Montreal, and the Director of its institute for community economic development. He completed a statistical study of the demographics of Black Communities in Montreal. He is also one of the authors of Statistics Applied to Canadian Issues. Bayne co-founded Montreal’s Black Theatre Workshop in 1972 and the Black Studies Centre in 1973.

The City of Toronto and the Government of Ontario are working on introducing a vacant homes tax. The purpose of this tax is to incentivize investors which are currently holding approximately 65,000 unoccupied homes in Toronto to rent these properties out to the public. http://ow.ly/KKVj30bWFkU

#BlackHistory365 Dr. Juliet M. Daniel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at McMaster University. Dr. Daniel’s work in the cancer research field led to her discovery and naming of a new gene “Kaiso”, coined from the popular Caribbean music “calypso”. Kaiso regulates the expression of genes that control cell proliferation and adhesion, therefore, Kaiso’s may contribute to tumor progression. McMaster University

#BlackHistory365 After a terrible car accident in 1990, Sharon Riley joined the Toronto-based gospel ensemble that would eventually become known as Sharon Riley & Faith Chorale. They became Canada’s first gospel group to sign an international contract and now has a long list of awards and achievements including a Grammy and a Juno.
