This morning, Mayor Emanuel announced that road construction season is in full swing. Paving crews have already completed more than 65 miles of street repaving this year, and are on track to fulfill the Mayor’s commitment of paving more than 300 miles of city streets this year.
Since 2011 more than 1,000 miles of Chicago streets have been repaved – amounting to almost a quarter of the city’s streets

"The Obama Presidential Library is a once in a lifetime opportunity that will bring tremendous cultural, economic, and educational benefits to the Southside and the entire City of Chicago for generations to come. Over the past months, the City has come together to bring the library to its rightful place in Chicago. I want to thank President Obama and the First Lady, who made the decision to bring the library home to Chicago, but this couldn't have been done without the collaborative efforts of the University of Chicago, aldermen, community members, the Chicago Park District, the Chicago Plan Commission, Senate President John Cullerton, House Speaker Mike Madigan."- Mayor Emanuel

This afternoon the Mayor joined UI Labs Leadership to open Chicago's Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute.
The 94,000 square-foot facility is reinvigorating U.S. manufacturing industries by enabling manufacturers to harness data to make products better, faster and more cost-competitive.
Over the next three years, DMDII anticipates having a portfolio of about $100 million worth of sponsored research projects, spread out over dozens of initiatives and hundreds of participants.
