Do you really know what's in your pets food? Or how your dogs food might compare to another brand? Try doing some research. Check out a site like www.dogfoodadvisor.com for unbiased dog food ratings and reviews.
Also keep in mind that many of these dog food companies change hands and you don't even know it. Once they change hands/ownership they can also change the recipe and you don't even know it!

I get asked by countless people, "what kibble is the best?" or "what do you feed your dog?"
Well for one, I don't feed my dogs kibble. Sure over the years I've tried my dogs on more types of kibbles than I can even count! I tend to adopt those dogs that are medically/allergy/behaviorally challenged LOL . Not to mention clients dogs that were not getting any relief from countless prescriptions or prescription foods. So that's set me off on a quest to learn all I can about what's going on with the pet food industry. Let me tell you it is really opening up a can of worms!! Down the rabbit hole for sure! Some of it you can definitely follow the money trail.
For many of my clients/friends/relatives changing their dogs food is too overwhelming to even think about. Even though for many of them there can be a direct correlation to the behavior of their dog as well as other medical issues.
*Remember this isn't meant as a replacement for veterinary care of your pet.

CANINE NUTRITION..... boy oh boy this topic can really set off a wave of backlash, rage, or praise depending on your opinion. One thing I always tell people/clients is that most trainers including myself are not canine nutritionists but neither are most vets. Just like most doctors are not nutritionists. Though there are some in all those categories. That being said, I have been researching what is a species appropriate diet for years. Why were my dogs as well as clients dogs having horrible allergies? Stomach issues? Chronic diarrhea? Not to mention behavior issues around what they were eating? I'll be posting pics of what my dogs eat in future posts as well as some tips that have helped. This is meant to be helpful information. I can't/don't diagnose. I will add resources to help you make good diet decisions for your canine companion. Remember it's your job as your dog's advocate to do your own research! As well as weigh the best options for your pet.

Think about the relationship with your dog:

There's a big difference between having your dog as part of the family and showing love and compassion.
AND-
Treating your dog as a child, "fur kid", babying them with no rules or structure.

If you do the latter you should ask yourself, "Why?" "What am I getting out of this relationship?" "Is something lacking in my life?"
You are not truly respecting the canine for the beautiful species it is.
It's a dog, not a human. It has DOG NEEDS!

Have a dog who is acting aggressive to other dog(s) in the home? One of the basic things to consider is stress levels in the home. This can play a huge contributing factor. If you don't decrease or change the stress levels in your home.....How do you expect your dog to change??

Fun Fact For The Day!....Dogs only produce sweat on areas not covered with fur, such as the nose and paw pads, unlike humans who sweat almost everywhere. However, they do have sweat glands, called apocrine glands, associated with every hair follicle on their body.
