How Twitter reacted to David Cameron's Europe speech As David Cameron gave his long awaited Europe speech, Kantar's Political Pulse, powered by Vigiglobe, did not miss a tweet! You can view our infographic by clicking on the image above or downloading it below. So what did we discover from our Twitter analysis: The much anticipated Prime Minister's speech (#TheSpeech or #EUspeech) clearly created the buzz: with more than 75,000 tweets exchanged on the topic between 8am and 6pm. That is an increase of 10 times the volume of tweets for Cameron compared to a normal day. During the speech, we even witnessed peaks of 300 TPM (tweets per minute). The majority of the tweets (53%) were subjective, meaning that they contained an element of sentiment or an opinion about Cameron's statement. Most of the tweets were critical towards the Prime Minister (42% versus 11% of positive tweets).

Fall in the number of British people taking part in winter sports

Latest figures from Kantar Media TGI show the number of British people practicing winter sports has fallen to 1.9 million from 2.3 million in 2007. Since 2010 the percentage of the UK adult population (aged 15+) who have been on a ski break in the previous year has fallen from 1.75% to 0.9%. The winter break to the mountains is seen by many as luxury that is all the more out of their reach in the context of economic gloom. So who are today's skiers? The latest Kantar Media GB TGI survey provides some interesting insights: Two thirds are men and two thirds are aged 15-34. In 2007 both stats stood at 58%. Skiers and snowboarders are more likely to be younger, and more likely to be men than before. In 2007 parents of children aged 5-15 represented 17% of winter sports enthusiasts. Now the figure is closer to 9%. 50% of skiers and snowboarders cite price as the most important factor when making travel purchase decisions. Read more on the Kantar Media TGI website

It's not enough for clothes just to be smart-looking, they will have to be smart as well Clothing is no longer just fashion. It is now expected to make a person better, not merely better looking. Embedded sensors and specially treated fabrics will soon be a standard part of a person's health regimen. First to hit the general market is Nike+, a suite of shoe and wristband sensors that monitor athletic performance by pairing the sensors to apps running on smartphones and iPods or Kinect for Xbox 360. AT&T is pushing for partners to track people's vital signs through wireless sensors embedded in clothing. Northumbria University in Newcastle, UK, recently opened P3i, a research center to develop 'smartware' to treat medical conditions, 'senseware' to detect medical problems and technology-embedded 'bioware'. These are just a few of the many efforts now underway. Expect also more everyday applications, such as a handbag that can point you in the right direction. Some of these smart cloth

Actresses Take The Plunge With Daring Looks At Golden Globes

They don’t call it the Golden Globes for nothing. Awards season opened last night with a checklist of the fashion season’s biggest trends. Colors ranged from deep oxblood to palest nudes and there was everything from sharp, sculptural masculine tailoring to hyper feminine silhouettes and prints. But we think the fashion story belonged to the deep plunge that left both “golden globes” on full display. Amy Poehler took the plunge twice and walked the pre-show red carpet in a Stella McCartney suit that showed off a sparkling diamond necklace and much more! And to open the show, she kept the motif going in a plunging deep red gown that was cut just as low as her jacket.
