If this is an inappropriate post, please delete but I figured Ol' Myrt was a good way to get the word out to a lot of people.

I am looking to talk with anyone who manages a vertical file for a society or library.
I have volunteered for the task for a local society and I just want to find out how others are tracking the items in the vertical file.
Ours started out hand-written in a spiral notebook, and has evolved into a spreadsheet with one column that has the name of the item.
I can basically change anything I want as far a tracking the items. The only thing I was told is that the names written on the actual folders cannot be changed.
I am not going to change the current system unless I see a better, easier way. I think there probably is a better way but I don't know what it is.
I want to keep it relatively simple and do not want to move into the true database solution. I think a more expanded spreadsheet may be the answer, with columns to categorize, etc.

So I am welcoming any suggestions or a more detailed discussion!!

I have only ever seen this guy, Andrew Carman, Jr., listed on old family group sheets from distant family members and this chalk drawing (it has his name on the back). I have never found any records for him. Until my great Uncle Herman Bull gave me this portrait in 2006, I assumed that he died as a child and that is why I never found him. He would be my 2nd great uncle.

Tech question about Google+:
Do I want to start a brand page AND/OR a community for my blog and perhaps other upcoming "stuff"? I already created a brand page and then I was ready to create a community from that page but it seems a bit redundant, unless I am not thinking it through correctly.
Perhaps +Pat Richley-Erickson or +Russ Worthington can provide some input since you started all this thought in my head in the first place!! HA! (I watched your hangouts, both old and new about HOA)
Any thoughts are welcome.
