I suppose it is time for an update, hah! If you haven't been following our website or Facebook, then a lot has happened since my last post!

Our Emerald C Ranch IR Hematite has now earned his Champion (CH) title, having won Grand in three shows, under at least two different ADGA judges. He has retired from the show ring and has been busy doing his part to produce new kids for us.

In the spring 2017 show season, Emerald C Ranch Earth Star was our first Senior Doe to earn a Grand. She only needs one more leg to earn her CH title!

Our does in milk have been participating in the ADGA Dairy Herd Improvement program (DHI, aka milk test) and a number of milk stars have been earned.
2014 stars:
EMERALD C RANCH SNFLK OBSIDIAN 1*M
2017 stars:
EMERALD C RANCH FR LUMACHELLE 1*M
EMERALD C RANCH EARTH STAR 1*M
EMERALD C RANCH AQUA VIOLET 1*M
BUFFALO CLOVER KOTO 1*M

The 2018 spring kidding season is nearly complete with 7 does kidded and 1 left to go. We have had 18 kids, 11 doelings and 7 bucklings.

And lastly, the 2018 spring show season is just ramping up. We plan to attend as many shows as we can including the ETGRA April Showers, CTDGA Spring Fling, WCDGA Decatur Doe Down, RRDGA show in Gainesville TX, the HNDGA show in Norman OK and possibly the Heart of Oklahoma and Arbuckle Classic.

We've got our show string lined up and are planning to attend the RRDGA show May 7 in Gainesville, TX, the Heart of Oklahoma show May 14 in Norman, OK, the Heartland NDGA show May 27-29 in Norman, OK, the CTDGA show June 4 in Ft Worth, TX, and finally the Arbuckle Classic on June 18 in Sulphur, OK.

If your looking to participate in any of these shows, its not too late! Check the entry deadlines. For the Heartland show (http://hndga.webs.com/) on Memorial Day weekend, there is NO DEADLINE, NO LATE FEES! You could even show up at the barn Friday afternoon and enter at that time. This show is near and dear to my heart, not only because I am the current treasurer/secretary, but also because it is a Nigerian Dwarf only show, includes bucks, wethers and dry does (which is becoming so rare these days), gives special recognition to the youth, provides up to 7 chances to win for youth and 4 chances for open, has NDGA shows as well as dual sanctioned ADGA/AGS shows, and has a friendly atmosphere with a catered dinner and raffle Saturday night.

Time to catch up with Fall kidding season!  So far, we've had kids out of Emerald C Rosetta Agate x Emerald C Onyx Thunder, Buffalo Clover Athena x TX Barn Stars Rosco and Emerald C Fiore Lumachelle x TX Barn Stars Rosco.  We found out that Fairy Dust is not pregnant, so she'll be living with a buck for a while!  Our last kidding is due in about two weeks, out of Emerald C Fire Agate x Emerald C IR Hematite.

We'll be at the State Fair of Texas this weekend!  Check-In is Friday, and the show is Sunday, starting at around 8AM.  The Nigerian Dwarf goats are in the Pan-American Dairy Goat show with the other dairy goats this year.

Nari has been calling all day and when I let her out, this is what she does. A standing heat if I ever saw one!

To wrap up our Spring show season, we'll be at the CTDGA Spring Fling in Fort Worth next Saturday. We've also finished all but one breeding for next Fall and are still waiting for our last doe to kid. I've updated our kidding schedule on our website (www.emerald-c-ranch.com) with all of the latest, but the rest of the site is in dire need of an update, so that is next on my agenda.
