MMmmm Lemon Ginger tea, and Pho Tai with enough Sriracha to make the broth same color as a red Solo cup. Nothing better for a drippy nose post-nasal-drip induced cough. Burn that shit right out of me.

And slowly I turn...  and try to figure out what I'd do with it.

I bought a Google Nexus 5 and received it yesterday.  I'm enjoying it so far, but have run into one problem which may be a show stopper.

I paired the N5 with my LG HBS-730 headset and that works perfectly.  Sounds good. All the buttons do their buttony things correctly.  This morning, I paired the phone with the audio system in my 2013 Subaru Outback and that went well, and everything appeared to be working properly.

When I got in my car to go to lunch the phone did not automatically connect to the Outbackss Bluetooth. :-(  I had to go into the phone and turn Bluetooth off and back on, then it connected instantly and worked fine.

This isn't a tenable situation and the phone is going back if I can't fix this problem.  Having to manually hook up to the handsfree/stereo bluetooth in my car is a deal breaker.

+Justin Alcorn yeah. Now that I have it paired correctly, my N5 is behaving. We'll have to see if that lasts

I was all ready to order a Google Nexus 5 next week.  Now HTC has released the HTC One M8 and I'm rethinking my decision.

Nexus 5:   https://play.google.com/store/devices/details/Nexus_5_32GB_Black?id=nexus_5_black_32gb

HTC One M8:  http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/htc/one-m8-gunmetal-gray.html

I'm on AT&T and don't plan on moving.  So, I can get a near-current device (Nexus 5) for $400 up front or a current-today device with "new better faster" for ~25/month over 26 months (HTC One M8).  I was dead set on the Nexus 5 this morning and now feel like I should reconsider given new data.

The OneM8 looks very tasty, but I'm not sure the differentiators make any real difference to me, and it's still ~240 bucks difference in price.

Advice?

Today, I got another cold-contact email from a recruiter looking for .NET developers, a skill I do not possess.  The only '.net' on my resume is in my email address.  I'm starting to think that's triggering these contacts.

This makes me like Seth McFarlane even more!

Seth MacFarlane, the multitasking comedian and creator of “Family Guy,” and other raunchy fare, happens also to be the driving force behind the new version of Carl Sagan's classic science show "COSMOS," which will appear Sunday on Fox and simultaneously on other networks, hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson. I know a number of the writers and producers who have striven to create something stunning, vivid and updated for the 21st Century.

MacFarlane admits -- in this fascinating article -- that he was partly motivated by a strong will to fight back against a growing darkness that seems to be spreading across much of America, in particular, an outright war on science of intellect, pushed hard by cynical manipulators for their own short sighted political agendas and greed.

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/02/arts/television/seth-macfarlane-champions-new-cosmos-series-on-fox.html?hpw&rref=television&_r=0

MacFarlane riffed about the irony, that COSMOS will appear on Fox Entertainment. “They are hurting and helping at the same time,” Mr. MacFarlane said of Fox, his tongue somewhat in cheek. “In that sense, I suppose it’s incumbent upon Fox to do something like this, to make up for all the damage it’s done with its 'news' network.”

Very interesting

I'm not surprised by his conclusion at all. Owning hardware is cheaper, if not fashionable.

I installed one of these in my Outback this weekend and love it. It puts my phone up in my field of view and holds it securely in place. Wonderful! It even came with this weird gooey disc that lets the suction cup on the bottom stick to the deeply textured dash of my car.
