How many times are we confronted with some hazard and we might not appreciate the danger that it might present? A "freak accident" provides us with a situation to look more closely at these opportunities. Be aware and be careful. Condolences to Charmayne's friends and family! #accidentprevention

As we continue to experience snow and ice in many parts of the country, pileup accidents occur with far too much regularity. It is so very important to slow down and leave yourself plenty of room, especially on crowded roadways, so as to avoid these sometimes deadly highway accidents. #highwayaccidents

A sad case involving a local man who died in a snowmobile accident. These are high speed motor vehicles that run on very slippery surfaces, many time in densely wooded areas. As parents of student athletes, should we do an investigation of our child's athletic program's safety precautions or should we just assume the school is doing what is right? Do our critical eyes need to always be on the lookout for potential problems and then should we be prepared to speak up? What do you think? Hoping for a speedy and complete recovery. #collegesportsinjuries

Such a tragic accident. Please keep in mind that fact that so many activities that we engage in on a daily basis have an opportunity to injure us or can have deadly consequences. Caution should always be a consideration especially with younger people. Have fun but be careful. Condolences to the family. #accidentprevention

A tragic case involving a crosswalk accident underscores the great need for caution for both drivers and pedestrians. As drivers it is important to always be present in the important task of operation a motor vehicle and to be on the lookout for sudden emergencies. Pedestrians need to be careful when crossing the street, even when they have the right of way, and to make sure other vehicles see them before proceeding. Condolences to those affected. #crosswalkaccidents

A Derby, CT nurse practitioner, who works for Comprehensive Pain & Headache Treatment Centers, headquartered at Griffin Hospital, was among the top 10 prescribers nationally of the most potent controlled substances in Medicare's drug program in 2012. Heather Alfonso, an advanced practice registered nurse, wrote out 8,705 prescriptions for opioids and other Schedule II drugs in 2012. If you use an 8 hour workday, 5 days a week over 50 weeks this comes out to 4.35 prescriptions an hour or 1 every 13.79 minutes (if my math is correct)! Am I the only one to think that this situation requires some type of investigation- on so many levels? #painmedicationabuse
