This week's #urbansnap is motion.  Looking through my photos, I was struck by how absolutely static most of my shots are.  Thanks for this reminder, +Sam Breach and +Kristine Ward .  Took this one on a photo walk with a group from UCSF that went all the way from the Ferry Building to the Sutro Baths.

I was standing in the middle of the street shooting this beautiful firehouse in San Francisco, when the door started rolling up.  I was so immersed I hadn't noticed the firetruck approaching.  Doh.
This week's theme is "red" for  #urbansnap  a really fun game brought to us by +Sam Breach and +Kristine Ward .

I love the red lights outside the fire stations. You're still alive enough to post this so I am guessing it didn't mow you down!

I'm continuing to learn about digital photography.  Some new stuff, a lot of review and much needed practice.  This image is from the depth of field assignment.  (Constructive criticism encouraged!)

Fabulous photo exhibit at the Contemporary Jewish Museum (Mission x 3rd). Berenice Abbott, Sid Grossman, Aaron Siskind, Weegee, Lisette Model are some of the more recognized names, among many other lesser known photographers documenting social issues.

There's an associated photo contest as well: http://www.thecjm.org/on-view/currently/the-radical-camera-new-yorks-photo-league-1936-1951/sfphotohunt .  (Deadline 12/18)

+Trey Ratcliff lead a photo walk at Burning Man this year!  It was so fun to meet other people passionate about photography out on the playa.  We started at Center Cafe and wandered from there.  We stumbled on a wedding, which we thoroughly documented, got stampeded by unicorns, paid homage to the Man, ending our walk with lots of fire at the Charcade.  All the while receiving instruction and encouragement from Trey.  Fabulous!

This Sunday is the first Sunday Streets of the season.  Ideal photo op!  From an SF bman email: "From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Embarcadero will be transformed into an open space for people to get out and be active. There will be loads of free activities such as Roller Disco, Yoga, Freedom From Training Wheels, Rock Climbing Walls, Hip Hop Dance Lessons, and more!"

Here's another taken at Stanford.  I was panning and I feel that I got the subject just barely sharp enough to work.  The part I really like though, is the repeating arches in the background.

I've never brought a "serious" camera to bman, but I do have some fun snapshots to share.  This is Mike Ross' Big Rig Jig from 2007:
