Are you a writer, artist or creator doing a signing at San Diego Comic-Con? Here's a tip for you that some folks might not feel comfortable telling you to your face: If you're a writer or an artist who has been asked to do a signing in an exhibitor's booth, arrive on time, be gracious with the fans who come to meet you and then - this is the most important part - leave the booth when the signing is over. I know it's tempting to hang out with the exhibitors afterward or to treat their booth as your own private resting spot on the floor, but really, don't do this. The booths are small, the exhibitors have work to do and you will be in the way. Some of the exhibitors will be too polite to say this to you, so I'm saying it for them: Don't be a diva.

It's convention season - time for a refresher course in con etiquette!

Time once again to roll out my blog post on convention etiquette for fans, pros & exhibitors. Feel free to share:

Looks like we're adding two new shows next year for Penguin: Chicago Comic-Con and Romantic Times (we've never had an official presence there; only unofficial). I am also exploring Phoenix Comic-Con for 2015. Good things are happening, people.

I'm looking for the name of a company that will rent me a lead retrieval barcode scanner for San Diego Comic Con. I know Random House uses one every year, but I no longer have any connections there in the marketing department. Anyone? Thanks in advance for any help!

Hey, fellow book lovers! Did you know that Penguin has four great Facebook genre book communities? Project Paranormal (http://ow.ly/lZW25) for paranormal romance and urban fantasy, Destination Elsewhere (http://ow.ly/lZW8t) for SF/F, Love Always (http://ow.ly/lZWeL) for romance, and The Crime Scene (http://ow.ly/lZWku) for mystery, crime fiction and cozies. Pop over there and like one of them today!

Gang, my Penguin colleagues and I are doing a walk this Friday to raise money for Girls Write Now, a fantastic NYC-based non-profit, the first organization in the country with a writing and mentoring model exclusively for girls. They do great work and we want to support them. If you'd like to help us support Girls Write Now, click on this link: http://ow.ly/lY5O4. (And please share with your friends! I'm looking at you, Lauren Cerand!)

JOB OPENING at Penguin! Heads up, folks. My colleagues at Penguin Young Readers have an opening for a Digital & Social Media Marketing Director in New York City (no telecommuting). This person will be responsible for developing and executing the digital marketing and social media strategy for the PYR young adult and children’s books, apps, and online communities. It's okay if you haven't worked in publishing before but you must have experienced working with youth-related brands, and frankly, a genuine love of and familiarity with kidlit can't hurt. (And I shouldn't need to say this but I will: Bone up on the PYR brands, people.) Read the requirements carefully; they've interviewed a lot of people because they really want the RIGHT person for this job. (And please share with friends!)
