Meteorologist Kurtis Gertz first joined the KCCI team in 1994 and later returned to NewsChannel 8 in 2000.
Kurtis has been awarded both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association Seals of Approval.
Kurtis became keenly interested in weather while working outdoors on a construction crew in his home state of Wisconsin. To escape the cold and learn more about the weather, he headed to Florida and Florida State University where he graduated magna cum laude.
Kurtis has worked at KDUB-TV in Dubuque, WHBF-TV in the Quad Cities and at KCCI from 1994 to 1998, and then KTVX-TV in Salt Lake City.
he can get away from work, Kurtis likes to travel. His favorite spot is
the Brule River in Wisconsin where he fly fishes for steelhead.
Closer to home, he loves to ride bicycles and jump the barriers at the local cyclocross races
"I did a little auto racing when I was younger, and at a pre-race drivers meeting I noticed that a lot of people were looking my way. When I looked next to me I realized they were not looking at me, but at Paul Newman," Kurtis said.
