Mike Dowling is the principal sports reporter for WCVB-TV’s “NewsCenter 5.”
Since joining “SportsCenter 5” in 1985, Dowling has provided extensive coverage of all Boston’s major sports teams. Dowling has reported on the Red Sox from their 1986 World Series appearance to their wins in 2004 and 2007.
He has also covered the Celtics from their title runs in 1984 and 1986 through their more recent trips to the NBA Finals, as well as every Patriot playoff game for the last 25 years, including their six Super Bowl appearances.
Before coming to WCVB, Dowling worked at WBZ-TV in Boston as weekend sports anchor. His broadcasting career began in 1980 at KBYU-TV in Provo, Utah, where he was the station’s sports anchor. In 1981, Dowling became sports director at WANE-TV, Fort Wayne, Ind., and covered Big Ten and Notre Dame football and basketball.
In addition to his 15 year association with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Dowling is also actively involved with Tenacity, the Spaulding Rehabilitation Center and The Doug Flutie Jr. Fund for Autism.
Dowling graduated from Brigham Young University in 1976 with a dual degree in journalism and political science. He and his wife Darsi have five children: Michael, Drew, Cory, Brady and Blake.
