So, how do I keep people from adding me to circles? How do I get out of circles I've been added to against my will. Why don't you have to ask before adding someone to your circles?!?!??
G+ may get deleted today....

Heh. Same here Claudia. People have become so sloppy and overtrusting about Facebook. I'm hoping G+ retrains us to think more critically about where all this information is going. And I think that's exactly the point of the circles: who do we really want to give keys to?

On Facebook, it's default: world. And there's no non-binary way to change that. Here it works like a Venn diagram, more like actual life, in other words. You have to juggle friends a bit, which is healthy: collecting is discouraged simply because of the volume of fine-tuning that is required to make the concept work. You could just throw them in a big bag and treat them all the same, but you would be getting a very milquetoasty version of the ride that way. No, you need to experiment with your social interactions a lot more here than anywhere I've ever seen before to get the most use you can out of it,

BOM Shankar! Massive HUGE outpouring of love and healing for our dear friend Cheb I Sabbah, who has recently heard the devastating news he has stage 4 cancer. Without health insurance, the dance and culture communities of the Bay Area are coming together in celebration of his life and of his contribution to the music scene, to give thanks and resources for his cancer treatment.

Because he will need tens of thousands of dollars to pay for treatments and is not able to work at this time, this is a 100% benefit to cover his life and medical expenses and support our friend.

1015 Folsom is generously gifting the whole club for our friend in thanks to his dedicated years of service to the dance and music community and for his impact on art and culture in our community.

it was a great benefit! Three dance floors and live music and bellydancing downstairs. Fatchancebellydance was there, as was Ultra Gypsy, etc. Lots of people. It IS awful, but I am so glad to see all these communities come together for the cause.
That's one thing I really liked about last night: different ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds all dancing. There were several people 70+ years old on the dance floor "raising the roof" (as it were) to the bhangara (sp?) music.
I hope they do more of these. It was a good showing.

And here, again, I am up against what I HATE about all this social media crap: Why do people who I either:

1. don't know at all
2. know only by name, but have nothing in common with
3. use to know socially but haven't talked to in over 5 years
4. won't talk to me in real time but want to "add" or "follow"

want to follow me?
I have had all three in the last 24 hours

The people who don't know me, but want to follow me, I just think it's random. And I can see how if you are really into this shit, that you want to include all the people you know (I figure it's a FOMO thing)

But I am totally creeped out by people who I haven't talked to in years but who somehow are the first few people who find me on a new social media site. Still, don't get any personal communication, just a notice saying they've "added" me. WTF? If you haven't talked to me in years and years, why do you want to include me in your "friends"? Doesn't feel friendly. And I wish you'd go away....

And then the worst are the people who I see out and about, but who won't say "hello" when I'm there, or approach me or whatever, but TRY TO ADD ME MORE THAN ONCE to a social media thing!! I even have had one person who says pretty nasty things about me behind my back try to add me on Twitter (a reason it's locked) THREE TIMES. You'd think she'd learn after the second time at least!

So how do you deal with this? Do I block the person? Do I send them a note that says I want to be removed from their "circles" or whatever?
I really wanted to play on this site (since I am not on teh facebooks) but if it's gonna be the same thing, where people with whom I want no relation can just add me, I may quit this too.

Besides, from what I can tell so far, this is just a place for people to forward jokes and silly videos. So not much has changed from the days of the BBS's. eh?

Here's a picture of me feeding treats to four dogs (two mine, and two visitors) and a cat. Notice Ginger, my big girl, just laying there. Who's the dog whisperer? ME! I've been able to get the dogs and cat to eat from my hands at the same time. It only took five years, but they did it!

Watched a barista go from mopping floors and moving floor mats to making coffee WITHOUT WASHING HER HANDS IN BETWEEN TASKS! When I asked she wash her hands, she rolled her eyes and put on gloves. I'm a chef & kitchen manager, so I know this is not only gross, but against SafeServe practices. But it was the eye roll that got me. I have loved coming in the mornings for coffee, the baristas who work in the morning are awesome & smile and are generally hapy. I guess the afternoon crew gets to be the typical sullen, 'I'm too good for this job" type. Mopping the floor an hour & a half before closing (while food is still being prepared) is lazy and shows that the employees are more interested in leaving than doing a good job of closing a kitchen. It will be a long time before I feel I can trust the food & drink isn't being handled by nasty, dirty hands.
