The Martian trailer is out

Yesterday we had a little preview, and now we get the official trailer for The Martian, based on the book by Andy Weir. It looks great, and I'm really impressed at how many of the parts of the book seem to be in the movie. Like potato farming, and math! I was sure they'd remove those.

Yes... I want to know how big you like them - books man, I'm talking about books! Are you them mammoth tombs or the skinny sub two hundred pages? Let me know. Do you agree with me?

Happy Earth Day from all of us at Penny4NASA

As members of the human race, we call this chunk of rotating rock, fire, and ice home, and we should realize how amazing Earth is everyday, not just April 22nd.

With that said, Earth Day has been celebrated worldwide since 1970, and has contributed greatly towards the spread of environmental awareness we see today. However, such a renowned appreciation of Earth – as it truly is, not as a map – didn't take place until astronauts were able to gaze upon our planet during the early days of space exploration.

On this day, we leave you with a great quote from Neil deGrasse Tyson regarding the historical context of this annual event. These stirring words were featured in We Stopped Dreaming (Episode 2) - A New Perspective, a video created by our very own Evan Schurr.

Watch the video. Write Congress. Spread the word.

Listen up, gang!

One of the books mentioned in yesterday's SF Signal post of e-book deals was Julian May's The Many-Colored Land. I mention this because I don't believe it gets the attention it deserves anymore. This and the three novels that follow it are probably the greatest science fiction adventure I've ever read.

It's an epic about one-way time travel six million years into Earth's past by groups of misfits who can't make life work in the multi-species federation they were born into. In the past they find one hell of a surprise waiting for them. The series features a wide array of great characters, incredible battles, and wild psionic shenanigans. Try the first book for only 1.99 right now!

And Julian's a woman, so you won't blow your reading challenge the second week in!
