MAZE OF THE BLUE MEDUSA

Does someone know what the difference between the 'pages' pdf and the 'spreads' pdf is please?

Cheers

How did you get your PCs into the maze and what is their motivation? I run a science fantasy campaign so I'm thinking mirror/painting/doors like Father Inire's or Red and Pleasant Land's mirrors. Would it be too much of a stretch to go from sci-fantasy to this?

+The Real-ish Greg Gorgonmilk For when players are thoroughly enjoying the immanent TPK.

Stahleno the Gorgon is dead!  All hail Fortune's Favourites, who have this past week dispatched a beast so foul as to turn those upon which it's breath fell to iron, thus making the Certopsian Plains a little bit safer for all; like Big Jessica, drover station master who went on record to say "They're a brave bunch those Fortune's Favourites, ran right out there and defeated the beast that everyone else was shit scarred of.  I'd dare say they've made a few enemies though, there was a bunch of right unwholesome fellas here a couple 'a nights back lookin' for 'em"..

In related news, the Office of Obscure Jobs, Mr Johnson's personal sub office of the Fist's intelligence wing has, through normal public channels issued a standing bounty for snake-headed humanoids, after adventurers filed reports of having engaged and killed six out west.

THE GREEN FISTS ARE DEAD.  ALL HAIL FORTUNES FAVORITES.  AKA: RETURN TO THE PRISON OF THE HATED PRETENDER

See ASE 2/3 for details of the Greenfists, a rival adventuring party of 4th level who are/were agents of The Cult of Starry Wisdom, enemies of the PCs.

So my players head out to the Prison Of The Hated Pretender west of Lugosi because they believe the pretender knows where the Shining Trapezohedron is.  (He does, It powers his machine of course).

Players  negotiate with him the next night.  He agrees take them to where it is, if they set him free.  As they're leaving, Pretender ready with suitcase of pumpkins players then disagree about whether to set him free, and the Northern Barbarian Tankred kills Pretender.  (see my prior share for a picture of Tankred)

An argument ensues.  A mysterious 'floating' iron spike attempts to destroy the sigil sealing in the Pretender.  Weapons are drawn. Group agrees to wait to see if the Pretender reforms again and then decide.

That evening at campfire Barbarian Tankred (gets DM to light candles and turn off lights to simulate campfire), player stands up (he's tall like 6'3" or something) and in character throws down blood oath that he will kill anyone who lets the Pretender free, noting that he paid attention to the murals about why the Pretender is imprisoned.

(meanwhile dm rolls d6 to see if they were followed by The Green Fists who are both their dungeon rivals and agents of the PC's nemesis organisation, The Cult Of Starry Wisdom, who both want the trapezohedron to summon the haunter of the dark, and thus the Pretender, and to do in the PCs who have been asking too many questions, one in six chance, I roll a one.  The Greenfists set up observation from the forest nearby).

The players wait a day, the Green Fist Wizards tailor their spells and attack.  Tankred and Moktar are webbed, the level one newbs Snax the fighter and  the Elf are slept along with the two thief henchmenn and the wardog are slept.

Pelegost the cleric attempts to target the group of two wizards and fighter who have appeared, but is run through by the invisible thief's scimitar, who has crept invisible into camp, and Pelegost loses his chance to cast.

The wizards attempt to charm Cybella the magic user but she counter spells using +Gus L's rules.  She follows their suggestions to "come over here and chat" anyway because she thinks the battle already lost and spends most of the encounter negotiating.

Pelegost starts waking people and the thief keeps attacking him, and saves against the continual light directed at him but is damaged by a magic missile.

Tankerd and Moktar attempt to break free of the webs as the five slave warriors charge.  Tankred breaks free, cuts one charging slave in half, and the remaining slaves drop their weapons.

Luckily Snax is woken by Elf and she goes to the very timely aid of Pelegost the cleric and with his wardog alpha (recently leveled to 2hd) now awake the thief legs it, being attacked by Snax (platemail and big sword) and bought down by wardog Alpha leaving Pelegost free to cast hold person on the two wizrads and fighter. The two wizards failed and collapse and the fighter stabs Cybella viciously with trident and then surrenders after realising he is alone.

He bargained saying he was the leader and knew the most so the PCs killed the wizards figuring they could always use speak with dead later.

I was a little reluctant to begin this encounter because it was total surprise ambush, but I am arbitrary and go with what the dice say.  The Greenfists rolled terrible rolls all encounter and the combat swung around the the PCs.  This just goes to show even an  apparent sure thing is open to the exigencies of combat.

Please cross the Greenfists off your encounter tables.

Do you like Calvin and Hobbs AND D&D?  Check this out then.   I really like the artist's (Innerabove) style, and think they will make a great OSR artist when we have finished purging the cuteness.
