The first part of any wedding has to be the proposal!  Usually, as a photographer, I am not around at this point but earlier in the summer I got the chance to be a part of a very special proposal at Craigievar Castle in Aberdeenshire for Steph and Murray and it turned out to be a great chance to have some fun with the editing as well as capturing that 'moment'.

Murray wanted a special place to propose to Steph and he chose Craigievar Castle to make the perfect background.  He even sent me a photo with instructions on when and where to hide (along with a piper!).  I made sure I was early to be sure not to miss it.  Hiding around the corner next to a tree they arrived right on cue and Murray did the traditional down-on-one-knee proposal with the castle looming up behind them.  Thankfully Steph said yes, Murray gave the thumbs-up and I snapped away.  The piper played and they were so happy, a real pleasure to be a witness to the event.

In editing these images I wanted to reflect the fun we had taking them as well as the impressive location.  I hope this will give you an idea of how different a photograph can be made to look depending on how it is edited.

One advantage of having moved to the north of Scotland is that I am much closer to the wilder areas of the country than I have ever been before.  One of these areas that I had never explored before is Assynt, an area of outstanding beauty on the west…

I do like a fine malt whisky!  In 2012 Old Pulteney 21 year old was awarded  “World Whisky of the Year” by the prestigious “Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible.”  Scoring a record-equalling 97.5 points out of 100, it is only the third time that a single malt has…
