Until recently, I have been able to get FBReader on Android to recognize books downloaded to the Android device by selecting File Tree as the search target, selecting the Books folder (/storage/extSdCard/Books), and searching for the book. Once I opened the book from that view, it became available in all the other views (in fact, it appeared that all books added since the last time I used this method became available).

However, recently this has stopped working. In fact, FBReader no longer finds the newly added books when using the File Tree access method. A search for a word from the file name fails, even though the file is visible in a file explorer (external to FBReader).

Any idea how to get around this?

Forget everything I posted in this thread.

I had confused a DIFFERENT approach with using the File Tree. That approach is opening my file explorer (My Files, which is provided by Samsung as a pre-installed application on the Galaxy S5 phone), and tapping on the e-book file. With the file type associated with FBReader, the file opens in the reader; from then on, it is accessible through the Library interface in FBReader.

This is working just fine. My apologies for my confusion.

I am running FBReader V2.2.7 (2020720) on a Samsung Galaxy S5 (Android 4.4.2). I have 7651 books in the Books folder on the SDCard.
I use Calibre (currently V2.16) to maintain my E-book library on my PC (Windows 7, all updates applied). For the most part, I have been using Calibre’s Send to Device feature to transfer E-books to the Android device.
However, when I move books to the device using this feature, they are not recognized by FBReader. Opening the Library and performing a search will fail to find the newly added books. Performing a Rescan will not make the books accessible. Rebooting the device and restarting FBReader does not help; nor does performing a Rescan after a reboot.
The only way that I have been able to make the new books accessible is to open the Application Manager, find the FBReader entry, and then Clear data and Clear cache. Of course, because this also deletes all settings in FBReader, I then have to configure the program again.
Although using the Calibre Connect/share feature to open a Content Server, and then defining a Network Library in FBReader to access the books is an alternative, I would prefer to be able to manage the library from within Calibre, if possible.
Is there any way to resolve this issue – that FBReader doesn’t recognize books copied into the Books folder by Calibre?

+Andras Szekely Mostly literature, but also some technical books. I grabbed a lot of literature from Project Gutenberg. I've been replacing my hard copy books with e-Books as the authors/titles become available.

By the way, I've never seen the point of creating subsets. I have all 7600 books on a Galaxy S5. FBReader doesn't have any problem managing the entire library. Searching the catalog by title or author is quite fast, despite the number of books. I have a 64 GB SD-card, and the books take up about 5 GB, so I doubt that I'm going to have any problem as my library continues to grow.

I'm trying to figure out just how big an egotist Tom Barrett is.

I receive E-mails from Friends of Tom Barrett periodically. Each message begins with an image of Tom's name, with big red letters on a white background.

And I mean BIG. The image is 2018 pixels wide, by 892 pixels tall. That's far larger than the screen resolution of any recipient who's likely to be interested in Tom. I've got a pretty high resolution display, and all I can see is:
TOM
BARR

If I scrolled down, I MIGHT be able to see a message of some importance. But I get 100 or so political E-mails a day. I'm not going to waste my time struggling with an E-mail that takes too much effort. If I can't tell what the message is on first glance, you've lost me.

I've run into a problem using the Network Library to connect to a Calibre Content Server from FBReader on Android (V2.4.6 (2040620)

My books are stored on the Android device (running Android version 5.0) in "/storage/extSdCard/Books"

I set up the library, and it will display the books in the Content Server correctly. However, when I request a download of a book, I get an error message that reads:
Unable to create folder /storage/extSdCard/Books/192.168.1.81_8080/get/epub

The library defines the URL as
http://192.168.1.81:8080/opds

Any idea what is wrong and/or how to fix it?

I had Total Knee Replacement on both knees about three months ago. I did Pre-Op PT as well as Post-Op PT with the therapists at SportsMed. I have been very pleased with the therapists and with the results. All of the staff are friendly (they remember my name!), helpful, and knowledgeable. They answer my questions and give clear, detailed explanations.
