Had a ton of fun learning seascape photography from the wonderful +Garry McCarthy last night in La Jolla.  He was gracious enough to share his knowledge and GND filter with me.  I learned a lot, got wet & sandy, and had a great time.  Hopefully some day when I actually have some time, I'll get around to sharing some shots from last night.  For now, here's one of me that Garry took. :)

If you don't follow +Garry McCarthy already, check him out.  I love his night stuff as well. :)

I had the pleasure of meeting up with the lovely +Elizabeth House and her very nice, very patient husband Dave this evening to shoot the sunset down at some of my favorite rocks at La Jolla, where I introduced her to guerilla coastal photography.  While the sky wasn't tremendously colorful, Elizabeth did prove to be quite good at dodging waves, and at taking a few when the shot demanded it.

Google+ Tip of the Day
Removing Events from auto adding to your Google Calendar

When Google+ launched G+ Events, everyone was excited, myself included. We finally had the ability to schedule community focused events for both our digital and real lives. There was a catch though. The standard setting was to have G+ Events automatically added to our Google Calendar. I don't know about you, but I don't care to have my Calendar flooded with thousands of events, from people I do not know who are half way across the world. Luckily there is a fix...

1. Hit "Calendar" at the top of this page (assuming this is the same account where you are getting notifications.
2. Click on the Settings icon in the upper right part of the screen (looks like a gear)
3. Click settings in the menu that pops up
4. Scroll down to "Automatically add invitations to my calendar:" and select "No, only show invitations to which I have responded"

You should no longer see Events pop up in your Google Calendar without your permission. SHARE THIS POST SO THE MESSAGE SPREADS

For more information, you can always pick up a copy of my latest book, Google+ for Photographers from Amazon, Barnes & Nobel or directly through +Peachpit (the publisher of the book).

Sorting and editing photographs do not go well with watching Olympics.  I either miss events or I don't get anything done.  Oh well...it's only two weeks...the photos will still be there when it's done ;)

IS PICASA SELLING YOUR PHOTOS THAT YOU'VE UPLOADED TO GOOGLE+?! Please read if you are a photographer!

#googlefail  (interesting to note that this is an established hashtag)

Ok maybe I'm just slow, I must have missed some important announcement right? Did you know that you can allow people to order your prints through Picasa Web Albums? Did you know that you won't get money for this, but Walgreens might? This is helpful if you are just sharing private albums with your friends and family, but what if you have greater aspirations and are sharing with the public! Did you know that by default Picasa is set to allow anyone to order prints of your uploaded photos? BY DEFAULT

If you think that's ridulous let +Google+ +Google know by sharing this post OR create your own, I don't care...I just think it's ridiculous that the default is set as it is and should be changed! Tag +Google+ and +Google and add the #googlefail  hashtag.

Once you've shared this or created your own post see here for instructions on how to change your preferences: http://support.google.com/picasa/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=59465

Hey Everyone~

GiveForward is running a contest in honor of World Give Day for the video with the most views now through May 4th. GiveForward donates $250 to the fundraiser with the most views and then promotes the video for the following week!

A friend from college's 4 year old son Jackson Whittington has been diagnosed with SGBS (a very rare syndrome) and if you could watch the video linked, that'd help them win some much needed cash to help cover medical expenses!

Video: Team Jackson! (WGD Video challenge)

Thanks!!

So I got an email tonight from +Chris MacAskill at +SmugMug that they are raising the price on my subscription by 66% (that's $100).  That is a huge increase!

I understand why they are doing it; however, I can't afford that, especially for the way I use Smugmug.  I'm a very small time photographer so I don't make enough to cover fee increases like that.  I'd like to still have the ability to sell prints when need be but there's no way I can afford to do that now with the increase. :(    Seems like there should have been a way for us super small time sales customers to keep our accounts as is.  We're not the ones driving up the cost b/c we're not uploading at the rate that people that do weddings every weekend all summer long do (like +Scott Jarvie ) and those people can afford the increase b/c they actually make money!

I'll have to figure out what to do by October when my contract is up and I'm not so quick to say I'll jump ship like others have.  I like Smugmug.  I like their customer service.  It's awesome.  I like what the company does for its employees.  I'm just sad that I can't keep what I had and, that in all probability, I'll loose the ability to sell photos through them since I'll probably downgrade my subscription.

Anyone else in my boat?

+Ed White - Thanks for taking the time to look at my work and the compliments. Much appreciated.  Thanks also for the advice.  I'll have to do that. :)

So I am slowly, so very slowly, getting around to going through the photos from my July trip to the Grand Tetons.  Being a wife and mom always comes first and between sick kids (trip to ER), the first 8 days of homeschooling my kindergartner, and the Olympics, I haven't had much time for photography.

Anyhow, here's one from the famous Snake River Overlook on my first day there.  It was mid-day but that's when I was there so I tried to make the most of what I had.  Nothing super special about this photo... just one of the first ones I'm getting to :)

Fun fun, I was there a couple weeks ago. I didn't make it for a sunrise shoot though. I was camping at Yellowstone Lake and didn't feel like driving that far again.

RAW vs. JPG

I know this topic is beat to death in all photography forums but this is a great article with some in depth comparisons between RAW and JPG. For those that still are on the fence on this subject, this is a great read. It helps you choose which format for what type of situation.
