Workers have finished repairs on the exterior of Perry's Victory & International Peace Memorial, and National Park Superintendent Blanca Alvarez Stransky announced Tuesday that the column will reopen for visitation on Tuesday, July 3.
The memorial will be open 10 am to 6 pm daily.
Perry's Victory closed three years ago to make needed repairs to the column for public safety. In the course of making repairs, other issues were revealed. The memorial was scheduled to open July 4, but contractors moved the date to July 20 last month because windy conditions were delaying work from the swing stages hanging off the 352-foot tall column.
Contractors have made up the time, and the column will reopen at its originally scheduled date in time for Put-in-Bay's Independence Day festivities.

Congratulations and a big HONK! to the guys from Miller Boat Line on their four time "People's Choice" award win, and their first title as the Cardboard Boat Race champs at Monday night's 4th annual Cardboard Boat Races, capping Pyrate Fest IV: The Revenge!
The Miller Ferry also won the "Best Design" award for their Battleship entry, and "Fastest Heat" covering the course in 53 seconds. The Roundhouse's "Red Rocket IV" placed second, and Frosty's came in third after their boat fell apart and they couldn't race the final heat.
Pyrate King Captain Mad Dog presided over the races before declaring Pyrate Fest IV closed, and admitting he once again could not find his lost treasure.
Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make Pyrate Fest IV a success!

US Brig Niagara will be in port overnight. Niagara, based at the Erie Maritime Museum in Eria, PA, is in the Lake Erie Islands for a sail training program. About 9:10 am today Niagara was cruising to the battle site of the Battle of Lake Erie, about 10 miles northwest of Put-in-Bay.
The Niagara will be arriving at Put-in-Bay about 2 pm for an overnight stay at Fox's Dock, and will depart Saturday for Canada.
The Battle of Lake Erie was fought on the morning of September 10, 1813 between American forces lead by Commodore Oliver H. Perry, and a British fleet lead by Robert Barclay.
Perry's heroics in a small rowboat that took him from the battered US Brig Lawrence to the fresh crew and sails of the Niagara, were instrumental in the US handing the British Navy it first defeat in history.
The resulting two centuries of peace between the US, Canada, and the UK is being celebrated this year through 2015. The first shots that began the War of 1812 were fired , 1812, at Fort Malden in Amherstburg, ON, 37 miles north of the islands. There are events at both Fort Malden and Put-in-Bay on June 18 to mark the anniversary. You can enlist in Perry's militia over the weekend of 6/15 at Perry's Victory & International Peace Memorial.
