The last in the Penguicon 2012 Report saga...Chapter 4: The Blabbering can be viewed here: http://goo.gl/b1Uub

Now with audio (accompanied by dark video) :) I talk about Closing Ceremonies, the Feedback Session, and overly maudlin thoughts on conventions. Also, a mention of this weekend's handoff meeting at the Hyatt, May 19th at 5pm.
A continuation of Saturday's report…again, probably forgot people and events, blah blah blah…you know the routine. Before we begin, though, some singing to kick things off (the first 10 seconds…th...

Holy word vomit, I need an editor for my post about Friday at +Penguicon: http://goo.gl/LWZBm Seriously...too many words...
Friday morning started with a bomb scare. A phone call at entirely-too-early-in-the-morning interrupted my tooth-brushing regimen with an inquiry from the head of housekeeping as to what the “big, met...

We might have mentioned that we had some exciting news related to the LAN party that is throwing at Penguicon this year, and here it is...MPCon is throwing a LAN party, and Penguicon is giving away a bad-ass gaming rig courtesy of MYTHLOGIC.

A friend of the con shot video of the last +Penguicon ConCom meeting. Much swearing and inappropriateness took place (much by yours truly). If you have ever wanted to see how this stuff gets done...watch this seemingly endless video.

http://goo.gl/9d5M7

Sometime I should get the ambition to cut up a 'Greatest Hits' of our meetings and con stuff into one 10-minute long concom wrap video. Sure, that'll get done!!

Some Penguicon related information:

First, we're looking for someone to run tabletop gaming. From the ConChair:

We are in need of someone to manage non-computer gaming for
Penguicon this year, and staff for them to rely on. I know many
of you love gaming, and want to see it expand, and grow. Now is
your chance.
If you're interested in helping out...email the chair (conchair@penguicon.org), whether to run the thing or to staff it. If you just have questions, please feel free to ask!

Next, this weekend we're throwing a party! If you just want to see the new space, drink our booze, eat our food, play games, chat, socialize, and relax a bit...well, come join us! http://www.penguicon.org/CMS/?p=355
(Sorry about the name!)

Finally, if you're interested in seeing how this thing operates, Saturday we're having a ConCom Meeting* at the hotel. People start gathering at 11am, the meeting starts at noon, we often grab food afterward. If nothing else, enjoy coffee and watching the show as we try to figure out what the hell we're doing.

* I know it says "ConCom Meeting", but that doesn't mean you have to be part of the convention committee. That just means we HAVE to be there, but the more the merrier...please consider joining us :)

While moving files back onto my laptop, I found some public service announcement videos we created a few years ago. It should be noted, we are idiots. :)

Also, outtakes after the credits.

Yet another in what appears to be a ceaseless barrage of +Penguicon 2012 reports...this time, Saturday: http://goo.gl/Aopeh
After the normal business of ensuring that everything was opened and ready to roll for the day, I had a few moments' break for breakfast before it was time to go to the Penguicon Board meeting. Fu...

It's a great cause, and a great way to get additional entries into the PC give-away drawing...oh...and NO FUCKING OKRA!

For more than 35 years, Gleaners Community Food Bank has been "nourishing communities by feeding hungry people.” Last year, Gleaners distributed 40 million pounds of emergency food to over 600 partner soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe counties. They alleviate hunger by providing the equivalent of 85,284 meals per day to people who otherwise cannot afford the food they need. Penguicon is pleased to support Gleaners by hosting a Food Drive this weekend at the Con. Bring any donations to Ops where you'll get special recognition for your donation. If you have any questions, feel free to email charity@penguicon.org, or check out the Gleaners website at: http://www.gcfb.org.

Hey all, I just wanted to make sure that the word got out, it would appear that there are something shy of 100 rooms available at the hotel for +Penguicon

Our room block expired at month's end, so, at this point, anybody who hasn't purchased a room is competing with the general population for them. I expect that by next weekend, there will no longer be rooms available.

Thanks...holy crap, it's April...we are almost there!!

(Also, the date just occurred to me: this is not an April Fool's joke. So, you know, there's that...)

http://ibloviate.org is blacked out today, in support of the protests of SOPA and PIPA.

It's pretty important, so, I want you all to do me a favor today. I want you to be a total dick. I want you to channel your inner jer_ and go to Wikipedia's elected official lookup form here: http://goo.gl/Vs7DU

I want you to use those phone numbers and CALL your representatives in the House and Senate. Then I want you to, in a brief, clear, calm manner explain that you are a voter in their district, that SOPA and PIPA are unacceptable to you, that you are following the voting records for this very carefully, and that representatives that are in support of either of these will not receive your vote. This is the important bit, use your big words and avoid hyperbole, invective, or melodrama. Don't give them a reason to dismiss you as some Internet crazy.

Then, find one non-tech-savvy friend or family member and explain why this is bad to them, and convince them to make the call too. A half hour of your day well spent in defense of something important.

(And if you want to really have the jer_ experience, use lots of disgusting and inappropriate metaphors when having those conversations with friends and family...trust me, it's fun)
