Pretty red flower
http://goo.gl/qrF20X
While hunting for Cherry Blossoms in Wahiawa made a brief stop at the Wahiawa Botanical Gardens and I saw this cool red flower. Unfortunately there was no label near it so I'm not sure what it's name is but it is such a pretty flower. del.icio.us · Slashdot · Digg · Facebook · Google ...

Here is a close up of one of the cherry blossoms. Today there are over 500 trees scattered throughout Wahiawa. Some were planted by Japan's Price Hitachi, who donated trees to Leilehua High School. The trees which are known for their stunning blooms in Japan and Washington D.C. seem to do well ...

Here is another Pow Wow Hawai mural on the Friends of the Library building on Poukaina Street in Kakaako. This one is by San One though I could not find any more information on the artist. I was intrigued by the color and design of this mural. Join us next week as I will share some Cherry ...

Wahiawa Botanical Garden
Tree of Flowers
http://goo.gl/emchij
I decided to make this Wahiawa flowers week. We started withe the beautiful Cherry Blossoms and we end at the Wahiawa Botanical Gardens with this tree full of brilliant red flowers. This is one of the cases where a picture does not do justice to how grand this looked.

Sakura Flowers

We went further down California avenue to the Wahiawa Hongwanji Mission and found a tree with larger flowers. To bloom these trees must lose all or most of their leaves and the winter must be cold enough. In Japan “Hanami” is the centuries old practice of picnicking under a blooming sakura.

Cherry Blossom Trees

Today we start a series on the Cherry Blossom trees in Wahiawa. Here is one taken in front of Iliahi Elementary School on California Avenue. Many of these trees trace back to a single tree brought from Okinawa by Choro Nakasone. He gave a seed to Tasuke Terao of Wahiawa in the mid 1950's.

Hibiscus by David Flores
http://goo.gl/ZcTQFn
We continue our Pow Wow Hawaii 2015 series with this hibiscus mural by David Flores. This artwork can be found on the Fisher Hawaii building directly across Mother Waldron park on Pohukaina street in Kakaako. I like how the flowers really stand out against the background colors.
