Gwen's Take: "From where I sit in Washington -– as midterm malaise sets in once again -– it’s breathtaking to look back on a time when so much got done."

Gwen's Take: "I met a member of a dying breed this week. But I had to leave Washington and travel to Pittsburgh to do it.

There, on the campus of Chatham University, I made the reacquaintance of Elsie Hillman, who has spent a lifetime in philanthropy and politics. She is a champion of diversity, of women's leadership and she supports abortion rights."

Gwen's Take: "I was reminded once again how difficult it can be for world leaders to satisfy all comers as I listened to the commentary that surrounded the president’s first meeting with Pope Francis.”

""As I type this, cable news is playing mutely on the television on my desk. The “Breaking News” banner reads: “Officials: This is the best lead we have right now.”

That's because there are no reporters anymore. Everyone is trying to shape the news or get an exclusive of some sort. The 24 hour news cycle has killed reporting as we used to know it. Everyone is working to be the next Woodward and Bernstein. Too bad because it is really hard to get any thing that isn't prefaced "Terror in the Heartland", "Crisis in DC" or some other catastrophe.
