As a startup with little to no credit history, the best way to improve your chances of getting credit from a supplier is to become a good-paying business customer. Once approved, credit arrangements are usually on net-30 or net 60-day terms. With supplier based credit you can buy products or services while paying for them at later date.

The failure rate for businesses has dropped by more than 30% since 1977, according to a report from Case Western. That’s good news, but more than 50% of all new businesses still fail within their first year, and by 10 years, more than 96% will have failed.

One of the most serious career choices you can make is whether you will be on the clock for someone else or work for yourself. But don’t be fooled: working for yourself doesn’t always mean starting up a new company. It’s not easy to come up with the right idea and the right amount of money to transform yourself into an entrepreneur overnight.

People start businesses for millions of reasons; as a way of diversifying their source of income, or maybe a passion they have nursed for a long time. Not surprisingly however, many millions more people consider the odds against them and they never take the bold step to try, when they analyze the risks involved in a startup.

Whether its learning from other small businesses and turning to them for advice, or finding opportunities to connect with new customers, small business owners need to capitalize on opportunities to engage with their community, which will ultimately help their business thrive.

There are two things that every entrepreneur wishes for: more time and more money. We yearn for more time because balancing any semblance of a career with the demands of a family life, friends and other interests, becomes overwhelming.

Many entrepreneurs try their hands at gaining a small business loan from a bank, but that’s rarely a smart idea. Banks tend to reject more people than they accept. If they do give you a green light, it will probably come coupled with a monster interest rate.
