Hm, Google linked two distinct profiles despite my best efforts. They were both "public," but so much for context....

damn it! we desperately need domain due process... I can't help but think the Kentucky AG taught the Feds here through their seizure of 141 domain names. At least in some of these cases it should be easy to show real harm, but it would be great to have more powerful recourses.

At USENIX FOCI #FOCI11 http://www.usenix.org/events/foci11/tech/

First up, New America's Josh King describes the Commotion mesh infrastructure. If the existing infrastructure doesn't solve your needs, do it yourself. Commotion (the NYT's "Internet in a suitcase," though Josh disclaims that naming) helps communities build decentralized -- and less censorable -- infrastructure.

Yet another reason why I love the Internet: Successfully repaired my Roomba with a $2 IR tx/rx combo and the detailed instructions posted by someone named Avi. http://www.schneordesign.com/Avi/irobot/roomba_mod2.htm

Networked knowledge FTW. /cc +David Weinberger

So far, "On The Practicality of UHF RFID Fingerprinting: How Real is the RFID Tracking Problem?" http://www.springerlink.com/content/35n2310366759178/ concluded we could be tracked by the physical-layer signatures of our RFID tags.

Blogged: Google+Motorola = Software Patent Indictment

http://wendy.seltzer.org/blog/archives/2011/08/15/googlemotorola-software-patent-indictment.html
Apart from the patents, hardware-making complicates Android's strategy. (and yes, Mrs. Lincoln might have liked the play)

My belated contribution to #nymwars

This is the Budapest statue of Anonymous, celebrated for writing early historical chronicles, the Gesta Hungarorum. Perhaps the woman sitting next to him with camera and notebook wants to share her accounts without a name attached, too.

If Web privacy keeps Mozilla's Sid Stamm up at night, how can average users possibly cope? (#PETS2011)

Tools like Collusion, RequestPolicy, NoScript, and Ghostery can help the expert, yet can add to the proliferation of confusing choices that "break the Web" for everyday browsing. Do we need regulatory action to un-break it?

Thanks for the "Collusion" tip. Really neat addition to the gaggle of privacy-enhancing plug-ins I run. I agree with the problems confronting average users. My elixir of plug-ins means that most new pages I visit don't work right until I open up a few things. Here's my list (feel free to delete this comment if the link-out bugs you Wendy) http://www.haven2.com/index.php/archives/online-privacy-tips

If you're thinking of setting up a Tor relay (to help people protect privacy, communicate anonymously, and circumvent Internet censorship), now's a great time!
Katitza Rod originally shared:

Last day! Act Now. Help online activists worldwide by setting up a Tor relay for @EFF's#TorChallenge. Share the news!

G+ seems to be a massive force for transformative fair use, since inserting a link grabs images and snippets for the direct purpose of enabling commentary and conversation. I wonder what the Associated Press http://www.ap.org/ thinks of that, since they've bitterly opposed clipping in the past.

+1 to the Google team for enabling users to engage with sources this way.

Say what you want about Google -- and many of us do -- but they do hit the sweet spot of (1) being inclined to engage in fair uses of copyrighted content and (2) having the financial and intellectual resources to defend the positions they've taken.
