Hunan specialties served in a small red-walled setting decorated with posters of Mao.- Google
People talk about hot red pepper, hot & sour soup, braised pork, pumpkin cakes and dan dan noodles

My mom suggested Hunan Kitchen for lunch and it turned out to be a good selection. The name of the restaurant perfect resembles the ambiance of the spot: traditional, small, and delicious. The first thing that grabbed my attention was the decor, Chairman Mao's portrait was perfectly mounted on the wall. I ordered the chicken with hot red pepper, yummy!

Best Hunanese restaurant in the city. Sichuan's peppercorn free cousin. Worth the trip to flushing. Cute waitress too.

I had an unpleasant experience at this restaurant. The food isn't any better than any other restaurants that serve the same type of food in Flushing and the service is very bad. It's a small restaurant and a lot of people come just because of the article from the NY times. Their waiters as well as the manager aren't capable of managing the restaurant when it starts to get crowded. 30 Minutes after our first dish, the waiter actually gave us the check, placed it on the table and asked us to hurry because there are customers waiting. The manager lady simply pointed at me while looking at the waiting customers (who are anxious for our table) as if I wasn't paying for my dinner and leaving before I'm even done. I've lived in the neighborhood for 14 years and I've tried out almost every restaurant in the area-- this is the first one that made me write a restaurant review on the internet.
