Hands-On Learning Hangout

Join +Katy Farber (Non-Toxic Kids) and special guests as they discuss how to squeeze in hands-on learning opportunities in the classroom and back at home.

#SpringIntoEducation   #Parenting   #Education

It’s almost spring! Time to get the kids outside, moving, and learning. Join service learning and place based education experts, teachers and parents to discuss how to fit hands-on learning opportunities into busy days of teaching and parenting.

Hosted by Katy Farber, Founder and Author of the blog Non-Toxic Kids, and author of Change the World with Service Learning, this Hangout will give you ideas and tips about creating hands on learning opportunities in school and out.

Katy’s guests include Dana Hudson, the Northeast Regional Co-Lead for National Farm to School Network, who has worked extensively connecting farms and schools. She is an expert on food and farming based learning experiences and the mom of two young children, ages 2 and 5.

Also joining us is John, from Life Lab. John Fisher is the Outreach Director of Life Lab located on the UCSC Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems Farm. Since 1996 John has worked exclusively in farm- and garden-based education programs teaching pre-school through high school students and provided professional development opportunities for thousands of educators.

This should be a lively and informative crew!

Please submit your questions about service learning, place based education, food education and outdoor, community learning by commenting on this post. We will try to answer as many of your questions as possible during the hangout!

Snap Away with the new Hangouts Capture App!

Check out the deets below :)

#googleplusupdate

Introducing the Hangouts Capture app: snap & save moments as they happen

Google+ Hangouts bring people together, and when they do, all sorts of awesome can unfold. Maybe it's reading a bedtime story to your grandkids across the country. Maybe it's taking a cooking class from your kitchen. Or maybe it's answering questions from your constituents. We hear lots of great stories (http://goo.gl/ENWXo).

The challenge, oftentimes, is capturing your favorite moments as they happen, so today we're introducing the new Hangouts Capture app. With it you can take pictures of your Hangouts-in-progress, including a number of features not available in the usual screenshot workarounds:

- Once you’ve opened the Hangouts Capture app, you can snap photos of your Hangout view with a single click
- All photos are saved to a shared album, visible only to other Hangout invitees
- You can view these photos while inside the Hangout, when browsing your photo albums, or by visiting the original Hangout post
- And, importantly, you’ll always know when the app is in use: when you join a Hangout, when someone opens the app, and whenever a picture is taken

The Hangouts Capture app will soon be available worldwide, so look for it the next time you join a Hangout. Together with Effects, YouTube and other apps, we hope you’ll find Hangouts an even better way to make memories together.

Kozy Kar has quite the theme. A fun place to check out and grab a few drinks. My favorite part of this spot is the carpeted waterbed you can sit on while sipping your drink.

I've dropped by this delightful spot a few times. The friendly staff and the well-prepared au lait's make for a lovely experience. I've yet to try their infamous "Rebel Within" (an asiago-cheese, green onion, and sausage muffin with a poached egg in the center), but after hearing all the raves I'll be doing so very soon.

A sweet spot to grab a beer and a comforting meal post-work. When I went I tried their chicken enchiladas...wasn't crazy about it. I think next time I'll go with the chicken pot pie. It's got a nice, casual feel. If you're around the area, I'd say check it out.

I've accepted you won't find great Southern food in San Francisco, but they did a decent job. I tried the fried oysters, the shrimp and grits and a side of sauteed brussel sprouts. Nothing tasted amazing, but good nonetheless. I will say they have a great beer selection.

My experience at Magnolia was wonderful -- great beer, tasty bites, and good service. Though they come at 3 bucks a pop, I recommend trying the "Devils on Horseback". Order these babies and you'll get yourself goat cheese-stuffed, bacon-wrapped dates. A bite of heaven - I know.

Absolutely one of my favorite drinking spots in the city. It's got a great feel - whether you're there on a weekday after work or on a Saturday night. They offer a unique cocktail menu and the service has always been great.

Great spot to bring a crowd with there being plenty of space indoors and outdoors. Don't go for the food, go for the beer.
