One literary movie that did surprisingly poorly at the Oscars was ‘American Sniper’ and this week we have chosen it to be our eBook of the week!
Loved and hated, the film was accused of going too far in glorifying the central character and his actions. Those problems aren’t exactly absent in ‘American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in US Military History’, our Book of the Week, but it does offer a far more objective viewpoint. Written by former sniper Chris Kyle, the book recounts ten years of service in the Navy Seals and the career highs and emotional lows they entailed.Whether you think Kyle is a hero or a villain there’s something for you here, as Kyle’s own account of his actions unravels in an exciting and frankly honest narrative with a lot to say about war, soldiers, and America’s role as the greatest military power on Earth. This is made more poignant after Chris Kyle’s murder by another Iraq war veteran, Eddie Ray Routh, in February this year. This week Routh was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Leonard Nimoy, Star Trek's Mr Spock, dies at 83!

US actor Leonard Nimoy, who played Mr Spock in the cult sci-fi series Star Trek, has died at the age of 83 in Los Angeles, his family has said.

His son, Adam, said he died of end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease on Friday morning.

Nimoy had a long career as both an actor and director.
However he was best known for his portrayal of the half-human, half-Vulcan character in both the TV franchise and series of films.

Last year, the actor revealed he was suffering chronic lung disease COPD, despite stopping smoking 30 years ago.

It was reported earlier this week he had been taken to hospital on 19 February after suffering from chest pains.

He later tweeted: "A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory."

He signed off what was to be his final tweet with "LLAP" - a reference to his character's famous catchphrase, "Live long and prosper".

New ‘Alien’ Movie Confirmed with Director Neill Blomkamp!

20th Century Fox has closed a deal with director Neill Blomkamp to develop a new “Alien” movie, sources confirm.

The untitled sci-fi project is separate from “Prometheus 2,” which Fox is still making with Ridley Scott.

Blomkamp, who directed “District 9″ and the upcoming Sony feature “Chappie,” had been teasing the project in recent months but said the extra-terrestrial reboot was likely abandoned. It was supposed to star “Alien” veteran Sigourney Weaver.

But on Wednesday Blomkamp confirmed the tentpole was back on track at Fox.

“So I think this is officially my next film,” he confirmed on Instagram.
It’s unclear whether Weaver is still attached to the movie.

According to insiders, the new “Alien” takes place years after the “Prometheus” sequel. Scott is producing both films through his production company Scott Free.

“Prometheus,” also distributed by Fox, was “loosely based” on the “Alien” franchise and earned over $400 million worldwide. But the 3D movie opened to mixed reviews, and Fox hopes Blomkamp, who last directed “Elysium,” can take the franchise to the next level.

New best friends’ Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran revealed this week that they hid from the police at a raucous after-party for the Grammys. The police were called to Mark Ronson’s hotel room where over 40 guests were having a noisy time. Taylor and Ed hid in the bathroom, before making a hurried exit. “It made us feel so cool,” said Taylor after the event!! Gosh, so rock’n’roll…… Taylor was also named the IFPI Global Recording Artist of 2014. Physical sales, downloading and streaming are taken into consideration, even though she has withdrawn her music from Spotify. Her ‘1989’ album has sold nearly 9 million copies to date. The same organisation, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) named One Direction as the biggest British act in the world, for the third year in a row. Simon must be so proud - kerching, kerching!

Our first Film of the Week is newly released feel good comedy ‘Hector and the Search for Happiness’ Based on the book by François Lelord, this road trip film tells the story of down and out psychiatrist Hector (Pegg) who takes a trip around the world trying to find happiness. With great performances and some heart-warming moments, it's a great Friday night family film.

If you're after something a bit darker, then look no further than horror-origin story ‘Dracula Untold’ The perfect late night vampire fest to start your weekend, Dracula Untold tells the story of how a dashing young prince named Vlad, played by Luke Evans, risks his life to save those of his wife and child, and in the process is transformed into the famous blood-sucking, undead, bat-creature we all know so well. Set against the backdrop of a war between the people of Transylvania and the Ottoman Empire, this dark fantasy story also stars Dominic Cooper and Sarah Gadon; it received solid reviews and performed well at the box office. Dracula Untold is available to buy on ZAPPBOX right now from £9.99, or you can rent it for as little as £3.49! -

Frozen Fever Promo Shivers On To The Web It's party time in Arendelle!

Given Frozen’s huge success at the box office, and the movie’s pop culture phenomenon status around a particular song (we won’t say the title here, just in case you’re worried about earworm syndrome), it was natural that Disney would look to keep the chilly bandwagon rolling. Initially there was chatter about a sequel – which may one day show up – but for now, a short follow-up, Frozen Fever, will have to suffice. Check out the trailer for the new footage.

Another week and another Adele rumour. This time speculation that she is in advanced talks with Michael Eavis to headline Saturday night at this year’s Glastonbury Festival. Great as this news would be, Adele has previously insisted that she will not do festivals. “I’d hate to book a festival and have a f*****g anxiety attack and then not go on stage.”
