Why People Prefer to Manage Their Alarm Systems from Their Smartphone.

Have you noticed how much you pick up your smartphone throughout the day? Don't worry, this isn't another lecture about distraction, we simply recognize that smartphones have become the new personal computer - causing us to use them more often throughout our daily activities. A2015 Pew Research study found that most smartphone owners use this little device as their preferred method for interacting with the online world.

This is also why more Oahu alarm system owners say they prefer to control their security systems from their smartphone - and rarely use the onsite panel they were so dependent on before.

After listening to what our customers have to say about this, we put together a list of the top 3 reasons people prefer smartphone managed security.

YouTube Makes Burglars Famous

There is no worse time in history to be a burglar than now. For one thing, it's harder than ever to get by with anything. As cameras have become more affordable, they are everywhere, and the resulting footage is making it easier than ever to identify and capture criminals. If those stakes weren't high enough, victims have been posting their break-in videos on YouTube, exposing criminals and their illegal activities to the entire world.

Sweating the Small Stuff

We recently received a phone call from one of our customers thanking us for calling her about a power failure. When we had called her, she had been puzzled about the cause of the trouble signal and went to her circuit breaker to find answers. To her surprise, the circuit breaker itself had caught on fire! With quick action, she was able to extinguish the fire before it could spread further or cause more damage.

When she called us back to explain what had happened, she was grateful. Our routine phone call about a simple A/C failure, she said, had saved her home.

Top 10 Ways to Prevent False Alarms

Why should we be concerned about false alarms? Because they are more than just a mere annoyance. They can cause disruptions with the security of our homes, neighborhoods, and our entire island. One example of this would be the alarm system that sends off so many false alarms that the neighbors and police stop responding when there is a true break-in or emergency. Another example is when a police precinct finds its officers are spending so much time responding to false alarms, that they institute fines - or worse, refuse to respond at all.

The good news is that simple human error is to blame for most false alarms, which means we can all help to prevent them by learning what to watch out for.

Where is Your Panic Button?

If you had an emergency right now, would you be able to find your panic button? Finding the perfect place for your panic button can be challenging. After all, you want to keep it hidden yet still reach it quickly. You want to access it easily, but not so easily that you accidentally bump into it, sending out false alarms. As the loose component to your alarm system, this button can get misplaced, or so well hidden, you forgot where you put it. Take some time to find a smart place for this emergency button so it will be there for you if you need it.

To learn about strategic panic button placement, read our blog post here:
