Unique. Can handle large crowds. Quick bar tenders. Loses its appeal after a few visits, but still a pretty solid spot on Rainey.

Rainey Street has been known for their quiet, more laid back bars in case you wanted to go out but didn't want to be around the drunk undergrads of 6th Street. Container Bar does not fit the mold of Rainey Street at all with it's loud oftentimes house music blaring and ad-hoc dance floor lawn area. They made the bar out of containers, which is pretty cool. However once the novelty wears off, and it does quickly, you're left with a not so great place at all. A single bar downstairs that makes getting drinks hard to do if you were upstairs. Oh yea, the drinks are expensive too compared to the other Rainey St bars. Container Bar belongs in Dallas, not Austin, and definitely not Rainey Street.

One of these things is not like the others... And when it comes to Rainey Street, Container Bar is it. Amidst quaint, softly lit houses playing ambient (or live) music, Container Bar pumps deep bass "club jams" and somehow always has a line of people waiting to get in. The atmosphere seems to me like that belonging to 6th Street moreso than Rainey. Don't get me wrong--the shipping containers create a unique setting with both intimate and public areas that's unlike any bar I've ever patronized. But I go to Rainey Street for its comfortable venues and low-key atmosphere, and Container Bar provides neither of those things.

So welcome to the Container Bar.....where they charge what they what! 8:00 I asked for a double Jack & ginger....I was told $6.50; then the bartender tells me, she didn't look at the specials, she actually had the audacity to say, "I can give you .50 cents back......... Get this.......an hour later another bartender is charging me $8 a drink......when I called them on it, my CC comes up missing.......... I understand Caleb is the GM, plse help! Because the only CONSISTENCY to this bar is how INCONSISTENT the prices are. Not to mention I'm on the phone with my bank now to cancel all transactions as a result of the inconsistent nature of this bar.....

Container bar is unique to say the least. It is also rarely a bad time simply because of the uniqueness and the fact that it is normally crowded but not annoyingly so. Overall, there are better bars on Rainey Street which stay more true to the Austin experience.

I remember the days of a "quiet" Rainey street with 2 or 3 bars. Am i nostalgic for those days? Sometimes, but not as much as some because I understand and even embrace change and growth. Now with downtown expanding onto Rainey, a modern and cosmo bar such as Container Bar doesnt seem as out of place as it once was. The design is great but in the summer at least, it gets really hot. The actual container rooms are cozy and cold though. Drinks are a little pricey but what nice place isn't a little overpriced. Overall, I would be happy as an out of towner to check this place out but I'm not sure it's a "regulars" type of establishment for locals.

This place's claim to fame is the fact that it doesn't look like other "Bungalow" houses on Rainey Street. It's literally made of shipping containers. So that's pretty dang cool. However, since it's fairly new-- there is always a line around the block (not worth the wait). Also, the design of the bar makes being inside on a busy night miserable. There is only 1 large bar, but it's so close to the only entrance that it causes a huge bottleneck. They do have a food truck onsite (haven't tried it).

Definitely worth checking out at least once if you've never been. Very unique and good music on the weekends. If you don't want to deal with crowds, go to Rainey St on a week night and your friends can probably find a nice spot to hang out in one of the containers.
