"Questioning transsexuality" http://feedly.com/k/12xPHFH
In Bradley Manning Is Not a Woman, Kevin Willamson makes a case that feeling like a transsexual – that is, that one is either a man in the body of a woman or vice-versa – should be regarded as a mental illness to be treated by therapy rather than with sex-reassignment surgery.

M aybe it’s just me, but I feel there is something deeply unsettling about the display of communist symbols by young people on the political Left, ranging from hammer and sickle to the portrait of Che Guevara. Most recently, we saw a whole spectrum of them at May Day demonstrations around the world—including in London. Common estimates of the number of victims of communism range between 85 and 100 million. Besides the death toll, regimes that hav...

Ezekiel Emanuel, Rahm’s brother and former health care adviser to President Obama, acknowledges in today’s Wall Street Journal that adverse selection may prove to be a “bump in the road” in the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). But never you mind. He’s got solutions. And, as usual, they all come down to messaging. Emanuel describes the ACA’s adverse selection problem in what are, for this Administration and its surrogates, remarkab...

Thoughts on gun owners: "Wayne LaPierre, President of the NRA, you're a vile and inhumane piece of shit." "You go into these small towns… and it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them" Thoughts on Michelle Obama's new haircut: "I love your new bangs" "She looked pretty good!" Thoughts on Barack Obama's presidency: "you’ve done a hell of a job" "a solid B-plus" Thoughts ...

It turns out that much more of it was phony than many people had realized. From David Farenthold, this is from today’s Washington Post: To sketch the bill’s biggest impacts, The Washington Post focused on the 16 largest individual cuts. Each, in theory, sliced at least $500 million from the federal budget. Together, they accounted for $26.1 billion, two-thirds of the total. In four of those cases, the real-world impact was difficult to measure. T...

Newtown, Connecticut has just experienced the single most horrid tragedy in our nation's history. The massacre at Newtown was carried out by a deeply disturbed young man, whom we are informed was routinely exposed by his (deceased) mother to the worst sorts of violent films, such as "The Terminator" and "The Matrix," and to videogames depicting the most graphic, soulless brutality, including "Call of Duty" and "Mass Effect." Yet we are admonished...

Might matrilineal descent also have an impact? Jewish mothers are more educated, other things equal, and so children of Jewish mothers are (other things equal) more educated, and most important, learn the value of education and books. I am not Jewish but my wife is, and she comes from a family ...

Research from the Center for Union Facts Uncovers Union Agenda Behind President Obama’s Minimum Wage Hike Proposal Today the Center for Union Facts released new research detailing how many collective bargaining agreements link union salaries and wage rates to the federal minimum wage. This research comes two days after President Obama proposed raising the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $9—a move which labor unions broadly praised. The researc...

Here are some very useful pictures and infographics, excerpt: To clarify: all of the major categories of government spending have been increasing relative to inflation. But essentially all of the increase in spending relative to economic growth, and the potential tax base, has come from entitlement programs, and about half of that has come from health care entitlements specifically. That is not NRO but rather Nate Silver. Here is the concluding t...

I've been thinking a lot lately about the wine industry in Paso Robles and the incredible evolution that has taken place in the years since I began making wine. In the "early days" of my career (lets be honest it was THAT long ago), Paso Robles was barely a shadow of its current self. I remember Paso still being lost and confused, nothing more than a pre-pubescent teenager looking for acceptance and trying to find it's identity in the greater wor...
