I can't believe we are now 5-year Nerdly veterans! Every year it feels more and more like a family reunion (or some sort of platonic ideal version of a family reunion...), very much missing folks who couldn't be there this year, while being glad to hang out with all the nice new faces who've joined our ranks. This is always the most friendly, considerate, cooperative, and welcoming crowd.
This year we beat the dread I-95 traffic by departing Brooklyn at 6am (worth it!!); established with +Lena Marvin
that a BBQ cookoff would have been an excellent test to smoke out Union spies in Confederate states (I believe this would make a terrific LARP preferably played at a cookout); played in +Whitney Delaglio
's Lady Blackbird with steely determination but probably not enough flair (NEXT TIME, WATCH OUT); got a great introduction to the world of Nightvale from +Natalia Granger
; played in the most nihilistic Western since High Noon; learned how to let the buzz of carpenter bees lull me to sleep (makes a fine white noise machine for napping!); got to dust off my creaky old frisbee skills thanks to the happy return of +David Berg
; enjoyed those tasty Saturday tacos; busted out some fancy Corellian piloting skills (pro tip: no Ewoks allowed in the cockpit); collected lots of excellent hugs; appreciated being allowed to sit in on a brawling episode of Monsterhearts (the Nerdly version of chilling in front of Netflix with my knitting...); collected my first ever ticks (boooo); and enjoyed hanging out with everyone terribly much!
I appreciate how well this crowd belies the axiom that listening to other people talk about their games is the most boring thing ever. Whoever said that has been hanging out with the wrong gamers, as I could listen to you guys swap tales for days.
For the first time, I've left a con with con voice! This might be a sign I'm starting to come out of my gaming-shell? And no small case of con-drop (really glad I have our home Dungeonworld game to look forward to this weekend).
Now, to roll some high fortitude saves vs those damned ticks!
