Tomorrow Attorney Noah Williams will present to the King County Bar Association Guardianship and Elder Law Section on the topic of “Employment and Independent Contractor Concerns for Home Health Care Providers." Mr. Williams, an associate attorney at Reed Longyear, focuses his practice on employment law matters. He represents a range of clients, both local businesses and individuals, including home health-care providers and adult family homeowners.

On August 17th Attorney Carla Calogero presented to Geriatric Fellows at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System on the topic of advance care directives and surrogate decision-making, including guardianship, in Washington State. VA Puget Sound serves the health care needs of over 80,000 veterans in the Pacific Northwest. Carla focuses her practice on elder and special needs law, and regularly speaks at elder law related events in the community.

Tomorrow Attorney Michael Longyear will co-chair the King County Bar Association's Ethics and Probate Litigation Continuing Legal Education program. Among the distinguished faculty, Attorney Carla Calogero will be speaking on the topic of omitted heirs, assets, and family allowance. Later in the program, Attorney Jason Burnett will speak on collecting debts.

We are wishing a happy anniversary this month to Attorney Erin Blower who joined Reed Longyear two years ago as an associate. Erin focuses her practice on family law litigation. She is known by colleagues and clients for her thorough manner in handling complex cases and supportive demeanor. Starting January 1, 2016 Medicare plans to pay doctors for counseling patients about end-of-life care decisions. Counseling will give patients more autonomy and shift the burden off family members making these tough decisions. Read more here:

Attorney Carla Calogero was recently elected to serve on the Board of Directors of Senior Services for a three year term. Senior Services is a nonprofit organization that provides vital assistance to seniors and their loved ones. From providing in-home support services to guiding people through complex health insurance or legal issues, Senior Services is dedicated to promoting a positive aging experience. Carla is an active participant in the elder law community and is excited to bring her knowledge and passion to Senior Services. Last week, our family law Mediator and Attorney, Christina Corwin, attended a professional skills program in family law mediation at Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine School of Law. Pepperdine has been ranked #1 in Dispute Resolution by U.S. News and World Report every year since 2006. Christina further strengthened her mediation skills by incorporating advanced mediation principles and cutting edge processes into her mediation practice.
As a mediator, Christina assists self-represented parties through the decisions and discussions necessary to reach a fair and amicable settlement. Christina mediates for parties going through divorce, legal separation, custody issues, child support issues, and many other family matters.
