The University of York (UK) has installed a Solid State Logic D24 Duality δelta hybrid SuperAnalogueTM console in its new Trevor Jones Studio as part of an upgrade to the production facilities in its Department of Music.

There have been recording studios at The University of York for over 40 years. The first was originally set up in the 1960s by Wilfrid Mellers, the founding professor and original Head of the University's Music Department, and was part of the development of a ground-breaking Music Technology Group. Since then, the university has been a consistent pioneering influence on electronic music composition and production, a legacy that includes the Composers Desktop Project, Ambisonics, and more.

"There is a lot of value in having the SSL in a great room... Listening to that kind of quality, you know you've heard what is possible... It informs your choices on microphone positioning, acoustics of a room, quality of an instrument. You can make an accurate judgement.” – Ben Eyes, Studio Manager.

Haxton Road Studios has installed a Solid State Logic AWS 948 hybrid analogue console at the centre of operations, using its SuperAnalogue audio architecture for flexible tracking and mixing duties, and its DAW Control technology to take charge of the Studio's Pro Tools HDX system. The console was supplied by Vintage King.

This commercial facility caters for the entire production process from writing and mixing to mastering. Haxton Road has a comprehensive list of vintage hardware and an exceptional line-up of instruments (particularly guitars, amps and cabs) available for clients. There is a selection of ISO rooms on offer, and the lobby, with its 20ft high ceiling can also be used a live room.

"Everyone that has been in so far has loved it. Engineers love the ability to sit down, get their hands on it, and get going straight away, while the musicians - just being able to hear their instruments through this console has been a major win for the studio. To have everything running through SSL pres and EQs, and then being able to throw on the Bus Compressor and let the artists hear something close to what it might be in the end is huge." – Neil Greenhaw, Owner at Haxton Road.

It is with great pleasure we welcome Haxton Road Studios to the SSL family.
