Looking for programmers for my friend's game
 
I'm looking to build a serious team to make a game. The agreement is simple for this FPS series. Agree to partnership with equal earnings for those of the same rank, if it is found necessary to hire, we will build a budget to pay those people. This is not a company...yet. The only other agreement is a confidentiality agreement to protect my IP as we build a team. The terms end when the series is complete or the company is built, whichever comes first. IP ownership will be transferred to the company.

I am drawing up all of the plans, will be testing, contributing as much as I can in all areas of development, and am willing to use asset store items. What will set this game apart is the list of innovative features.

I can create 3D objects in detail with Blender (structures), I am skilled in Inkscape, and want to develop the very basic usable environment first. You can use your preexisting assets. I am about halfway through the story, have a unique story element, and am almost done with various combat abilities.

I want to use traditional controls for PC mouse & keyboard and controller configurations. I want to improve the game as we go, hopefully for an easier development experience.

My goal is to move this title to console as well.

+Ryan Ahrens​​​​​​​​​​ Okay, you caught me being vague to protect my IP lol The plans are almost done. The largest challenges remaining are getting the team together with the software they know and finishing the script. I'm converting a movie script I was writing into the game script. I decided to do this because it would make a much better game than movie, and I can easily branch off of it into another story. I can create a lengthy series with it. The script is more than a third finished. I put it down to flesh out some details of the games I wanted to make because I'm unifying them and gamifying the entire experience. Basically making every interaction fun.

So I'll shoot straight on this one and leave it open for discussion. I initially intended it to be Unreal Engine because it's free, powerful, popular, can handle the targeted platforms, appeals to the targeted demographics, and comes highly recommended by our peers. Unreal uses C++ and users are creating C# plugins.

The currently targeted platforms are based in the devices I own and can test on, and are fully capable of running the game for a few hours: Mac (I don't own), PC, PS4, and Xbox One (I don't own). A mobile adaptation for Android (I own) and iOS is possible but not planned at this time.

I'm an INTJ, so bear with me on some details. I find it easier to answer questions than to offer up information for some reason.

A combination of things will make the game unique: total gamification, an original story with no reused scenes from game to game, new and rebalanced streaks, more in match combinations and reserves for streaks, rebalanced and new perks system, a more advanced points system, canned chat, longer matches, new game modes and re-imaginings of traditional game modes, larger teams with squad division, revamped maps with flow, player triggered map hazards, spillovers, new movement methods added, more freedom of movement, focus on better hit detection, automation of unnecessary controller functions, environmental control, custom character creation, more and more realistic character animations (most of us have seen characters do the worm to sprint from prone), hip fire during vault, class builds, hurdling, stealth kills while rappelling, no stat boosting by disconnecting, and melee counters are just a few features and improvements this game will offer to the FPS genre.

Only the very start of the project will be a time investment. Once we have a video demonstration of the most basic version of the game being able to run, and display some innovations and improvements, I would like to crowdfund the venture using the material. I have an attorney who will advise us on ways to protect our IP during this process. When we reach payout goals (original and stretch), the team members will be paid equally along the way.

I was on a small team but two of the guys wouldn't produce. I and the programmer were doing all of the work, and the non performing parties eventually caused the team to fall apart. We had footage of the game working as a proof of concept. We didn't mind releasing a free game, however, we couldn't get it done as it neared completion because of these two guys.

I don't want to really direct, I just want to work with a cohesive group to realize my dream FPS. I'm a musician at heart and moon shot kind of guy. I'm tired of being broke and failing at that from lack of money, so I don't give my ideas away. I want to share leadership because making these games helps me move forward with my music. I can think creatively more easily, relax from my day, and fund my career. Game development is a passion but not my life's dream. The languages I'd been focused on learning before going into game development are HTML 5 and Java. I'm taking courses on them so to remain focused, I've opted to use a simpler engine (Game Guru) to build a working proof of concept to show interested parties. Then we can use that as a guide to build it in Unreal from the ground up.

Thanks for this discussion. It's helping me focus my attention appropriately. Forgive any caution. I've lost IP before and couldn't so anything about it. The person who took advantage made a lot of money and didn't so much as offer me a ticket to his show. This conversation has taught me that I can't expect to be taken seriously if I don't communicate my thoughts in enough detail.
