Avoiding Prohibition of non-charging of your UI Account by Louisiana Workforce Commission.

Louisiana Workforce Commission has notably begun enforcing a long standing policy requiring employers to submit form LWC-ES-77 Separation Notice within 72 hours of a worker’s separation. Failure to comply with this policy will result in the prohibition of non-charging to employer’s UI accounts. Form LWC-ES-77 can be completed online (http://www.laworks.net/OnlineServices.asp) or by filling out the paper form and submitting by fax or mail.

WOTC Extended - Seize the Benefits

With the recently issued IRS Notice 2016-40, employers now have additional opportunities to seize the benefits of the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC). Previously, the IRS had granted taxpayers a special look-back period, allowing them to retroactively claim the credit for employees hired between January 1, 2015 and May 31, 2016. Notice 2016-40 extends this period until August 31, 2016, with September 28 as the deadline for filing the requisite paperwork. Offering up to $9,600 per qualifying worker hired, WOTC is a powerful tool to help businesses offset the cost of growing their workforces.
