This is only obliquely-related to feminism, but it's some good news, so I thought I'd post it anyway :)
With the Republican war on women, and with the fact that the Republicans were such strong favorites to retain House control until just a couple of weeks ago, this is really fantastic. And personally, I think the chances of a Democratic retaking of the House are even better than suggested here, for two big reasons:
1. The Republicans seem to be completely and utterly incapable of recognizing their tactical error in shutting down the government. I really feel this is a symptom of the intellectual bankruptcy that allows them to retain their harmful, bigoted positions. Because of this, I think they're going to continue to do things throughout the next year that will make people even more pissed at them.
2. The Affordable Care Act is going into effect this January, and while the law is already quite popular, I feel it's likely to get even more popular as people start to experience it. This is going to make the Republicans' scorched-earth opposition to the bill look especially bad next year.
Anyway, we'll see. But I thought people here might like to hear some (potential) good news on the political front :)
