As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, ask your kids what books they will read with their extra time off from school.  Challenge them to read an entire book!

It's important that they read a book at their level so they don't get bored with a book that is too easy or frustrated with one that is too hard.  One way to tell if a book is too hard is if they get stopped 5 or more times on one page because of a word they don't know or can't pronounce.

No matter which level they are, encourage them to read!

Brooklyn Reads 365
"NYC Reads 365 challenges New Yorkers to read every single day. Read for pleasure, read to find out, read to argue, read to persuade, read to laugh, read to cry, read to understand, read to forget. Help us create a new generation of readers." - NYC DOE Brooklyn Reads 365

Open Library Hours for 6th Grade students...
Middle School students will have access to the library for open reading.  The hours for Open Library Time are Monday through Friday mornings from 8:00 AM - 8:50 AM (except on days when there is no school or when posted that there is another event).  We encourage the 6th grade students to come in and spend some calm time preparing for their day at school.

All 3rd - 6th Grade classes have begun visiting the library during school hours.  We spent the first visit learning the rules of the Library and exploring the collection.  Their second visits will be to learn how to use the computer search program and to check out their first books.  We look forward to having regular visits, by each class, continue throughout the year.

Welcome to the new library!
My name is Katie Walker and I am the new Library Administrative Assistant for the beautiful new library in our building.  I am looking forward to integrating library programs that enhance the lessons all of our students are learning in their classrooms as well as teaching library systems to the children for research and personal enjoyment.  As many of you have already seen, the library is fully stocked and ready for the kids to begin visits!
