Summer might not be the time you'd ordinarily think to see your dentist but she or he may be less busy than when school rolls around, so you can grab an appointment more easily. To help clear up 10 mistaken assumptions people make about dental care, I've attached a blog article below.

It's certain that a bright smile to go with your summer outfit is always an attractive asset. In fact, did you know that people smile more in the summer? It's true. So while you're getting your beach body, towel and tanning lotion into the car to head out to your favorite lake or beach, remember that the greatest way to add to your outdoor summer beauty is to have a bright healthy smile. Give your dentist a call!

Now, about that beach body . . .as one woman put it: "This is my body and I'm going to the beach, so this is my 'beach' body." I'm with her!

Have a wonderful summer!

Is there no greater living dread than a root canal? Actually it's a painless way to save a tooth. I hope you'll feel more comfortable after checking out my blog about this unjustly maligned procedure!

DON'T FEAR THE DENTISTS Some dentists who specialize in treating fearful patients go out of their way to create a nonthreatening environment. Many dentists lack the patience to treat fearful patients with the care they deserve, Even those who advertise that they "cater to cowards" may not do a good job of it. If you're looking for a new dentist, I suggests being honest about your fears from the first call. Ask to speak to the dentist about your fears before you come in. If the receptionist seems dismissive, or the dentist never returns your call, don't go, "That's not the right office for you."

Have you tried teeth whitening with activated charcoal? Thoughts about this are all over the map, but if you're feeling adventurous you might want to try one of the safer methods outlined in this "In the News" article I just posted:

When it comes to our overall physical and mental health, especially as we get older, a key culprit in "age-related" disease is inflammation. But you don't have to suffer those diseases of "aging". Learn more from my latest blog at "In The News". And BTW, the health of our gums is a key indicator of what's really going on. Take care of your dental health, so that nasty periodontopathic bacterias can't start causing havoc throughout your body and lead to problems like heart disease, arthritis and Alzheimer's. There's nothing "natural" about the "diseases of aging". We know a lot more than we used to about how to maintain our health no matter our age.

"Cosmetic Dentistry" is a term covering so many different kinds of dental work it can become confusing. Here are some of the basic cosmetic dentistry procedures with an explanation that I hope will clarify the "why's" and "wherefores" of the different procedures that fall within "cosmetic dentistry".

“Tell me Doc – What Exactly Is Cosmetic Dentistry?”

“I’ve seen many ads for ‘Cosmetic Dentistry’; what exactly is ‘Cosmetic Dentistry’?”

The term cosmetic dentistry includes several specialized dental procedures used to enhance, improve or correct the appearance of the teeth and mouth. Typical problems such as stained, chipped, misshapen and crooked teeth can be corrected by cosmetic dentistry. Even attractive smiles can be enhanced by cosmetic procedures to soften a smile or add vigor or character to an otherwise uniform, unremarkable appearance. Some cosmetic procedures include:
