Super Saber shipping

Some new Figma goodness arrived on my front doorstep today in the form of Saber, a character from a series called Fate/Stay Night. I became obsessed with the figurine after seeing pictures of it on the interwebs with its ridiculously intricate carved armor and weapon detailing.

For someone who grew up on Bradbury's star-straddling imaginative fiction and who still misses Colbert's four-sevenths nightly neocon shenanigans, this is the Reese's Peanut Butter Cups of nerdgasm news stories.

I rarely think back to memories from that busywork-intensive containment unit known as American elementary school, but when I do, I usually arrive at listening to a Ray Bradbury story — something about a faraway planet, something about monsoons, I can never remember which one — during read-aloud time.

Can the simple act of reading make the world a better place? +Neil Gaiman seems to think so, and after reading this thoughtfully-crafted bit of advocacy, I'm hoping you will, too.

What a great read!  @neilhimself explains why our future depends on libraries, reading and daydreaming. I love the bit about China! And I am horrified by the bit about prisons.
A lecture explaining why using our imaginations, and providing for others to use theirs, is an obligation for all citizens

If I hadn't chose my current occupation, I would have been a librarian.  My nieces and nephews all got Halloween books instead of candy every year.  There were a few Neil Gaiman books in that bunch.

The only thing that would take the sting out of this news is if Stewart was leaving to head a revamped Colbert SuperPAC designed to support the Elizabeth Warren 2016 campaign.

I am so sad. I wish everyone would stop talking about it so I can go into denial until the last day.

Yay! North Carolina is back on The Daily Show! Thanks, Senator Tillis!
North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis stands by his free-market principles and suggests that employees shouldn't be forced to wash their hands before returning to work.

If you love Roger Ebert, either as a film critic or as a generally fantastic human being, as I do, then you'll want to watch Life Itself this weekend.  The film doesn't smooth over his rougher edges, but it's a reminder of who he was and what we lost.
An inside look at the life of renowned film critic ;Roger Ebert ;will make its television debut on CNN Films this Sunday in the documentary ;Life Itself ;directed by ;Steve James.

+Sherri Alexander This was near The Linq casino in Las Vegas.

+Robyn Rousseau I didn't have the opportunity to try one since I was out with my parents, and my photography process in that situation is to find something interesting, try to compose a shot, then sprint after my parents before they disappear into the crowd.
