I agree with +Billy Zelsnack the UP! uses rock solid pillwblock bearins on linear slide rails ( i think that is what they are called) At any rate their is ZERO slop in those. It IS possible to bend the z platform down in front but... The software is good, not much you can adjust but if you want to just print it works. it's interesting we are seeing a lot of bot designs like this lately. I have Makerbeam right here waiting to become a small something someday.

Have anybody tried g29 command. It changes z to level it with bed. It uses a. Micro switch as probe. You can check video on YouTube.

Thanks +Whosa whatsis i think the similar technique is used by afina with raft. with its software calibration it builds the raft so there is level surface for it. in extreme cases only you have to change height physically with bolts.in there calibration you just have to enter height from bed at 9 points.

I agree with +Anthony Morris acrylic is ok but when tighting the nut bolts i cant tight it enough. also acrylic is expensive. i am finding birch plywood locally but chances are slim. can you suggest any other wood material (i can do mdf but its not good for tabs and all.) or any other material suitable for printrbot jr. ?

I'd say that 30N•cm would be a good minimum for a standard 11ish-mm effective diameter drive gear. A smaller drive gear could do it with less. For instance, the Type-A machine uses a direct-drive Nema14 extruder with about half that torque, but it uses a drive gear with about half the normal diameter (comparable to the hobbed bold on a wade's-style extruder), which has the same effect as gearing it down 2:1. I had calculated that this should work before I met them in NY and saw that they had actually done it.
