Fall Start Up!
It's that time of the year again folks! I for one am a happy camper, and this weather could not be more satisfying.
As fall approaches and cooler weather hits, its a good time to get a head start on preparing your water feature for the season. We encourage that you stock up on your Biological Clarifier to take care of the sludge that comes with the fall season. As leaves begin to fall, they can land in your water feature and turn your water a tea color. The Biological Clarifier + Clarity Max will do the trick of keeping your pond crystal clear! To help avoid as many leaves as you can we suggest pond netting. The pond net will not only help protect your water feature from pesky leaves but debris from high winds and predators that want to eat your fish. We have all the essentials you need to get your water feature ready for the fall season.  Give our office a call for pricing and details today!

Tropical Water Lilies VS Hardy Water Lilies

There are two main types of Water Lilies that can be selected for your pond, Tropical (top) and Hardies *Hardy (bottom). The main thing that differentiates them for the grower is COLD! Tropical Water Lilies don't like it and the Hardies tolerate it. Though all will go dormant in cold conditions, the root-stock of many Hardies can survive in water temperatures just short of freezing solid. Where icing over is a threat, the tubes of Tropical Lilies must be removed from the pond and stored in moist cool to warm conditions to come back in future years. In warm climates they can remain in the pond. This does not mean that Hardies wont grow well in the south and tropics wont grow well in the north. Its more of what you are willing do to in order to keep them growing. *We do not sell Tropical Water Lilies

Why Plants Are a Must!

Fish waste is the primary source of nitrogen in any aquaponic system. Nitrogen is the first element listed in the makeup of modern-day synthetic fertilizers. Nitrogen is a part of all living cells and is a necessary part of all proteins, enzymes and metabolic processes involved in the synthesis and transfer of energy. It is a part of chlorophyll, the green pigment of the plant that is responsible for photosynthesis. Adding more fish to your system will generally help your plants grow more rapidly and produce more seeds, foliage, blooms, and fruits. Sorry folks, no “cleaner” method than this in aquaponics. Ain’t it beautiful?!

What Are Beneficial Bacteria?
Beneficial Bacteria are essential helpers in a Water Garden and for pond filters. They munch on pond fish waste and other organic matter, the bacteria converts deadly ammonia into "first nitrates" thus being an integral part of pond filtration. The nitrates will then be taken up by the pond plants. This cycle makes the Beneficial Bacteria essential to the health and well being of the water and the creatures of the pond including Koi and all other pond fish. Additionally it helps reduce problem nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphate.
