Barren lands and rice fields; azure ocean and mountainside slums; French and Creole - Haiti is a land of many paradoxes. But the greatest paradox I've seen is the HATS-Haiti compound at the edge of a canal, sitting next to villages where there is no evening light and I am reminded that Jesus is ...

CARNIVAL - Joan It's Carnival time here in Haiti! The whole country comes to a standstill on Monday for three days. You will probably be able to catch some of it on CNN! Unfortunately they did not show up to film us today but we celebrated anyway. The school had music going, hips swinging and ...

Special Moments at HATS As with all of us; life is busy, taken up with getting kids off to school, going to work, preparing meals and such. A whole day can pass here doing the busyness of life and you can miss the special moments. But I have caught a few of them and want to share them with you.

It's been another great day. Excuse clothes and hair dos because it is so hot that it is pointless to shower and change because you feel the same after. (But we do) It is all about the children so that's our focus. The morning began with me (Lily) taking my turn getting Ti Luc ready for the day.

They will do the talking. Keith mentioned on his blog, we have very little electricity and thus are very short on internet time. The children were truly happy to welcome mama back home. We have had some great times together in the past few days.

Like every other day since we arrived, there was work work work! There's was lots of admin things to do since Karen has been spending her time up on the roof, it's really been backed up! Occasionally when she figured we'd done enough work she would give us 5 mins to lie on the floor and attempt ...

Keith I think today may have been our busiest Saturday ever in Haiti. We promised Karen we would have her bedroom and bathroom painted by Saturday. And that it would be put back together, cleaned and pictures re-hung and she could be moved back in today. Pressure!! I thought in retirement I was ...

3 days till Christmas and the HATS team is getting ready for the celebration. The Christmas lights are all up and look great. Thanks to Rick from Liette's team and AL from the Roma team for putting them up. It's different looking at Christmas lights against the palm trees instead of the snow.

Thank you to all of our HATS supporters, and to all my family and friends, for your support during the recent ordeal with my health. Your prayers and loving kindness sustained me through it all. I am extremely thankful that I returned to Canada for medical help when I did.
