You might try an All In One almond tree.  Self Pollinator that handles colder weather.  How cold is in dispute:

Three sellers calls it USDA Zone 5-9.

Others calls it Zone 6-9.

The rest seem to call it zone 7-9.

It may survive colder weather than it will fruit in, as a spring freeze may not hurt the tree, but will kill the blooms.

Finally, I found almond varieties that sellers seem to agree are Zone 5: Prima, Bounty, Nikita’s Pride, and Oracle. Also, Seaside.  You need more than one variety to pollinate these.

How many years until these start to produce, and how many years til you get a full harvest?  How many pounds of raw almonds do you average per tree?  Per acre?  What varieties are you planting?  Are they self-pollinating, or multiple varieties for pollination?  Do you keep bees to guarantee pollination?  Do you irrigate?

Sand alone, without the steel front and back, would have to be a good 12" thick to slow down rifle rounds.  The rounds "tunnel" thru sand.  Consider gravel.  Those ammo boxes would be TOO expensive to be practical.  Plus, the sand slowly drains out the holes after the walls get hit!  And the weight will challenge most structures not built for it.  I've gone with Golf Balls as the best filler.  They deflect and stop anything, with just a few inches.  They are light, and they don't bleed out the bullet holes.  Buy junk/cut balls for a few cents each.  (You can box them, and stack them like brinks inside your walls, as an "after market" or movable defense.) Here's a video on my results.  http://youtu.be/G6eyheiPzwo

+Christopher Mendez In my next video, I tested golf balls taped inside the cardboard boxes that $25 worth of pennies come in from banks.  They held up pretty well.  Check out the results.

Gun-free zones are a magnet for trouble. I don't go anywhere that proudly declares that everyone on site is defenseless. It's just stupid. Disarming good people doesn't keep them safe from bad people. Plus, they cook all their burgers Well Done, which is almost as stupid as Gun Free Zones. It's a tie, I think.

Nice place, good inventory turn-over. Nice guy running it. Easy to find. Worth stopping by.
