Why was MegaUpload really shut down?

In December of 2011, just weeks before the takedown, Digital Music News reported on something new that the creators of #Megaupload were about to unroll. Something that would rock the music industry to its core. (http://goo.gl/A7wUZ)

I present to you... MegaBox. MegaBox was going to be an alternative music store that was entirely cloud-based and offered artists a better money-making opportunity than they would get with any record label.

"UMG knows that we are going to compete with them via our own music venture called Megabox.com, a site that will soon allow artists to sell their creations directly to consumers while allowing artists to keep 90 percent of earnings," MegaUpload founder Kim 'Dotcom' Schmitz told Torrentfreak

Not only did they plan on allowing artists to keep 90% of their earnings on songs that they sold, they wanted to pay them for songs they let users download for free.

"We have a solution called the Megakey that will allow artists to earn income from users who download music for free," Dotcom outlined. "Yes that's right, we will pay artists even for free downloads. The Megakey business model has been tested with over a million users and it works."

Yes, I'll have one of these please...although I'm guessing it wouldn't look quite so photogenic with random bits of lego and doll's clothing strewn across the floor ;-)
The idea in this series is to show beautiful and inspiring houses. Houses that are remarkable for its design, elegance, elements, concept or simply because they are beautiful. So if you like architect...

I like the overall new look of Gmail, but why replace words with icons? much quicker to scan for the word 'delete' than for an image of a waste bin

I really like F1 but with all that fuel, and all those lights, the Singapore Grand Prix must be one of the most environmentally damaging sporting events on the planet

"We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours." I wonder where Apple would be now if Steve Jobs hadn't stolen Xerox's idea for the mouse. I wonder how iOS would look now if Apple hadn't stolen the innovations of small developers. And so on and so forth...I think what I hate about Apple the most is their unbelievable arrogance

How come the S2 in this ad is a different design than the one that's available in the UK? Did Samsung have to change it so it looked less like an iPhone? Kind of ironic if that's the case...

The international version has capacitive back and menu buttons to the sides of the physical home button - some of the US versions have all capacitive, and have the search key as well.

Had a great time at TEDxLiverpool yesterday. Some very interesting stories regarding app development, and some unexpectedly profound stuff as well, particularly from Ric Elias. Thanks to all involved for make it a great day :-)

So the footage of the toddler being run over in China is now on the BBC website with just a passing mention that the footage is "distressing". It used to be that stuff like that was only available on the likes of ogrish.com, with warnings aplenty. The fact that it's now so mainstream is almost as depressing as the event itself

I concur entirely and have avoided watching it, you can read about man's inhumanity to man anywhere, you don't need to see it. Again, like the Gaddafi footage - it's ghoulish - reminds me of Christians, lions and gladiators in ancient Rome.

I do wonder if there is a higher propensity for this type of gawping/callousness during severe economic depressions?

Steve Jobs was my friend and hero for over thirty years. The Apple II changed my life before I met him, and working closely with him to create the original Macintosh was the high point of my career, if not my entire life. Steve was more than the greatest business person of his generation, he was a passionate artist who poured his soul into his work. I will miss him terribly, even though he will live on in Apple's products for many years to come.

Dear Mr Cameron, I'd dearly love to be able to pay off my credit card debts, as you suggest. Unfortunately though this is currently very difficult for me, given that I barely have enough money to put petrol into my car to get to work every day. Oh, and then there's trying to buy decent food to give to my kids. I suppose I could always just give them bread and water, then I could pay off your mates in the banks much more quickly. You ignorant, arrogant fucking prick

Ordered storage heater. A week later my money had been taken but I hadn't received my order and hadn't had any contact from them, so I called them up and was told that the suppliers were on holiday so I wouldn't be getting my order for a few more days - so at least a week later than the website advised. The gentleman I spoke to clearly wasn't interested in why I didn't think this was very good service. Hoping I receive my order next week, and definitely won't be using them again
