I have been posting that I need a new TV to replace my 8 year old 32" TV, now the time has come. I have been pouring myself into different review sites and forums over the past three days, made phone calls to/visited many showrooms and as a result have given birth to the following rant.
TV manufacturers are trying to dupe me(and succeeding). I don't want a curved TV but many of the good models are curved. I don't want a 4K monitor but you don't get premium features in Full HD models anymore. Best Full HD model seems to be Samsung J6300 and it's average at best. Models like JS9000, JU7500, Sony 850C are all great TVs but are 4K. Where's the 4K content? There's little to none of it. If if we get more 4K content in the future, human eye can't see a difference from 5ft+ distance anyway. So I need to pay for a 4K TV to get great picture quality and then use it to watch 1080p content. What?
I'm currently deciding between Samsung 7500 and 9000, which brings me to my frustration with TV prices in India. I don't know if the government taxes are to blame or it's supply/demand kind of thing but TV prices in India are sometimes double that of anywhere else. 55JS9000 is $2297 on Amazon.com, and it's $3656 in India. Prices in UK, Singapore are on par with American prices. It's cheaper if a friend brings a TV from abroad even after paying 36% customs! But I'm not going that route because of warranty.
/end of rant
I'm gonna buy Samsung 55J6300(Full HD) or Samsung 55JU7500(4K but no HDR/WCG) this week. Let me know if you guys have any suggestions for me!
