Mercedes G500 4x4² concept: the ultimate off-roader

The recent crazy 6-wheel super-wide, super-high-clearance Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6 pickup is an extraordinary vehicle, and now the classic G500 is about to get similar 4-wheel chassis. And it`s gonna be much faster and cheaper than the 6-wheeler!

The concept-car named G500 4x4² might become a true "dream car" for those who lust for competition-level off-road capabilities, sports-car-dynamics, luxurious interior and - hey, it`s a Mercedes with factory warranty and not some risky tuners demo-car.

The main feature of the 416-hp G500 4x4² is the portal axles borrowed from the military version of the G, which provide the following:

- higher ground clearance (almost 18 inches, twice as high compared to most SUVs, including the G500)
- 11-inches wider track (almost 70 inches wide)
- ability to ford water almost 40 inches deep
- cabin-adjustable tire pressure and optional off-road beadlock wheels for off-roading of soft sand with extremely deflated wheels
- 325/55 R22 tires (37" outside diameter!)
- electronically controlled dampers with comfort- and sport modes
- and still it accelerates to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds, and reaches 130 mph top speed
- and finally, its carbon wheel arches are almost 10 inches wider, the roof features LED light strips above the windshield, and also G500 4x4² features G63/65 AMG front bumper and exhaust tips

The Mercedes-Benz G500 4x4² concept is almost ready for production, and if Daimler gives the project green light, the extreme G500s might hit showrooms this autumn costing around $200,000 (2.5 times cheaper than the 6x6 AMG).

7 facts about the new Cadillac Escalade

A brief description of what should one know considering buying the new Cadillac flagship

It's still a full-size, 204-inch-long SUV with exceptionally wide interior and 3 rows of seats.

Now Escalade features a unique, sculpted, elite-quality interior which has almost nothing to do with Chevy Tahoe/GMC Yukon.

Speaking about electronics, the new Escalade now stands at the same level as Range Rover and Mercedes` S-class. The Escalade is now capable of automatic accelerating, decelerating and braking to full stop in case of emergency.

Also similarly to Range Rover and Mercedes S-class, the new Escalade had its dashboard replaced with full-width display.
The new Escalade also incorporates fully-LED headlights (which provide both low and high beam). All these come standard, as well as power liftgate with hands-free feature...

4) POWER (420 hp V8 comes standard)
There`s only one engine available, the 420-hp, 6.2 liter V8. Dynamic specs aren`t available yet, but we expect less than 7 seconds to accelerate to 60 mph and easy reaching of government limited top speed of about 110 mph).

5) LIGHT OFF-ROAD ACCEPTABLE, but not tough one
Though Escalade is still a tough-built, body-on-frame SUV partly based on the "real" off-roader Chevrolet Tahoe, it is not equipped with hard-core off-road features.

6) GOOD PRICE (about $70 000)
The price for the new Escalade hasn`t been announced yet, but probably it`ll remain one of the best offers on premium market: nearly all features come standard, and it still costs about $65-75K, which is significantly less compared to smaller German smaller premium SUVs.

Production of the new Escalade begins next spring in Arlington, Texas, and the vehicles will arrive in showrooms by next April.

"Ferrari-edition" Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8

The rocket Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, which is almost as fast as Cayenne Turbo (and costs only half), was presented in Europe in cooperation with Ferrari Formula-1 team.

Two "Ferrari Edition" Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8s were presented to Ferrari`s pilots Fernando Alonso and Filippe Massa.
The special Jeeps included special Ferrari paint, red-leather interior and lowered suspension.

Unfortunately, the Ferrari-edition Jeep won`t go on sale [yet], but certainly multiple tuner companies will be very happy to solve this problem...
