In September our Headquarter relocates to a newly put up building in the business park Eastsite in Mannheim. Since the foundation of the company we remained true to Mannheim as its location. Due to a steady growth of the employees up to meanwhile more than 50 colleagues we fulfilled ourselves the wish for bigger facilities with flexible room partitioning. The building Eastsite IX offers approximately 2,500 sqm office space allocated to five stories and a free arrangement of the inner space. From September 10, 2018 our address will be: Konrad-Zuse-Ring 28, 68163 Mannheim in Germany. Phone numbers and contact persons remain the same.

Deep Learning High Performance Solution on FPGA Frame Grabber
In keeping with the requirements for high computing power, the microEnable 5 marathon deepVCL was specially developed, on which larger neural networks can be calculated with lowest latencies using a more powerful FPGA. The deepVCL is a Camera Link frame grabber of the programmable marathon V-series. The integrated FPGA is characterized by high parallelism of processing, low heat output, deterministic latencies and long market availability. It already comes with a CNN runtime license for VisualApplets and offers a cheaper, more energy efficient and faster overall solution than a comparable with an industrial GPU. CNNs run on frame grabber FPGAs, but also on VisualApplets compatible cameras and vision sensors. Learn more about Deep Learning in our Webinar on 16 October.

microEnable 5 marathon VCLx is a programmable high-performance frame grabber for the most demanding image processing. Compared to the existing Camera Link solution of the marathon series, it offers triple the computing power with a data input bandwidth of up to 850 MB/s. With the additional resources, the processing bandwidth can be increased through greater parallelism and different steps can be processed simultaneously, with greater accuracy or at higher bit depth. The image acquisition and processing board can be programmed from the new VisualApplets version 3.1 and supports all Camera Link 2.0 configurations for up to two cameras. It aims at a broadly spread application focus, especially for the demanding and individual industrial use.

With Runtime 5.6 Silicon Software frame grabbers get compatible with the NVIDIA GPUDirect for Video technology. The access to GPUDirect is executed with our SDK on host PCs (Windows 10). Frame grabbers, GPU and CPU are completely synchronized, dramatically reducing latency times and increasing the data throughput. Furthermore with Runtime 5.6 a new version 3.0 of the Cognex VisionPro adapter is provided. The adapter supports all Silicon Software frame grabbers along with the corresponding applets (standard applets or programmed with VisualApplets). Runtime 5.6 also includes a revised installer making it easier for users to carry out an installation tailored to the own requirements.

As of this week VisualApplets 3.1 is available with many new features. With the new version the license scheme for VisualApplets Expert has been adapted. Additionally to the purchase of the whole solution, the parameters and debugging modules are also available individually. Furthermore, a console with Tcl interpreter and additional pre-configured VisualApplets designs can be utilized. Users have the possibility to automatize the design process. For direct input or the creation of Tcl scripts approx. 80 commands are available triggering actions in VisualApplets. New pre-configured VisualApplets examples, e.g. complex image pre-processing designs, will complete this version offering users a faster implementation. The new version officially supports as of now Windows 10.

The runtime 5.6 completes the marathon frame grabber series with two further CoaXPress frame grabbers and the external image acquisition device LightBridge 2 ACL. In addition to the already available CoaXPress boards ACX-QP and the programmable variant VCX-QP with respectively four ports the ACX-DP with two ports and ACX-SP with one port have been launched. The frame grabbers support color (RGB and Bayer) and monochrome area, line scan and CIS sensors. With the LightBridge 2 ACL the economical A-variant of the external image acquisition device LightBridge 2 is now available. Due to its compact size the device can be installed on the factory floor while the image analysis can be accomplished on a PC at a remote location.

Basler complements its product portfolio towards the performance segment of the computer vision market. With a view to next-generation image sensors and the associated higher data rates, easy-to-use high-performance image acquisition cards are becoming increasingly important. By combining Basler’s cameras with intelligent image acquisition cards from Silicon Software, customers will receive solutions from a single source in the future, which already allow pre-processing and analysis of image data “on board” and open up cost-cutting potential. “Deep Business” on the International Sales Meeting 2018
This year's international sales meeting attracted a new record number of participants. In view of increasing international business, more participants came from abroad this time. One focus of the event was our product strategy. Beside a new frame grabber generation with the microEnable 6 impulse series for the NBASE-T and 10GigE camera interfaces and with fiber optic connections the topic of deep learning on FPGAs attracted greatest attention. Operators for loading and executing neural networks have already been implemented in VisualApplets. The participants were able to get a direct impression of this by the live demonstrator on display. By the end of the year, a novel "CNN ready" Camera Link frame grabber with significantly more performance will be available especially for deep learning applications. With our new and expanded solutions we keep pace with the rapid technological change in the image processing industry.
