The original B-boy I embody real Hip Hop from the grassroots, I was a DJ that rapped then left if to someone else and before that a reigning God of walls, trains, buses and subways of Philly... there was no TASK too great!
Musically I have the vibe of the old Philly WDAS flavor with the blend-style of the club MixMaster's that taught me first hand: Lawrence "La La" Lavon of Kim Graves Disco & Bruce "Kool B" Johnson of Club LaFerry the late great Galaxy 5 of Philly, whom I followed and watched at The Calico Kitchen in Cedarbrook Mall, until I got my chance to shine at the Block Party level. Adding my own take and vision of music from my Mt. Airy roots into a collage of local influences of my friends & peers, there were a few DJ's out back then but none really understood the mechanics of scratching, but I did-and it set me apart, earning me a spot a the Hottest Disco in NW Philly... The Wagner's Ballroom, Friday, Saturday & Sunday nights.
Much of what Hip Hop has begun via way of the DJ, I started so many trends that the Philly DJ mimicked to what's become worldwide phenomenon, I WAS THE FIRST DJ IN PHILLY TO USED THE NOW FAMOUS "TECHNICS SL 1200" I BROUGHT THOSE OUT-After everyone Uptown-Mt. Airy/Germantown/Logan/West Oak Lane & Olney seen what I was capable of doing on those turntables, words spread like wildfire, and the rest as they say is MyStory. Hip Hop was so new and many people didn't really understand it's power, but I did and knew it was going to be an incredible force with of course it became.
We didn't have much to emulate by way of the early Hip Hop DJ, I remember doing a party and backspinning and most of the people looked at me like I was on fire or had 2 heads-a few thought, hey-thats kinda funky-so I took it upon my self to become the beacon of light for others to follow and I did just that, my legacy my never be written for all to know but I do know I moved mountains with music and as they say, we all have a story to tell, one day I will tell mine.
The word "legendary" is tossed around so much in Philly I disassociate myself from the word when it may come up, there are many around and quite deserving people, me I am just an elder statesman of the Funk & Hip Hop, Git' At Me!
Music with a passion, and I just enjoy mixing...
just a well oiled machine behind the wheels!
