Summer is here and it's time to hit the beach! One can't go to the charming city of Carmel-by-the-Sea and not go to #CarmelBeach. The world-famous beach is renowned for its sugary white-sand beach, spectacular views, and magnificent sunsets. It's also accessible to dogs and south of 10th Avenue only, open-pit wood “warming fires” are allowed, a rarity on other beaches in California.

There is a permanent restroom at the parking lot at the end of Ocean Avenue and temporary restrooms along Scenic Road.

Ideal for:
All crowds
Surfing,
Skim boarding,
Swimming (if you don't mind chilly water),
Beach games
Walking
Jogging
Dog walking
Picnics
Wood “warming fires,” but only south of 10th Avenue and only until 10 p.m.
Beachcombing
How to get there: From Highway 1 south, take a right at Ocean Avenue, drive through the main part of town, all the way to the end of Ocean Avenue. 5.5 miles from the hotel.

Very peaceful, quiet, yet close to aquarium and the highway to get to other areas. We appreciated it not being in the thick of things so we could rest after a day of play. Room was clean and well appointed. Beds comfortable with great sheets. Easy parking, room service kids meals were a deal when we didn't want to eat out. Plenty of storage for our belongings, plus fridge included. Excellent customer service throughout hotel. Wish the rooms were a tad larger and there were more amenities in the room without having to request (only a couple bath towels and small soaps/shampoo's for a family of 4), but will still stay here again in the future.

I got a discounted price to stay here but I think I would go elsewhere if I visited Monterey again. It seems they listened to the complaints about no AC, as there was a portable AC in my room which provided a nice atmosphere. My biggest compliant was...no HDTV. Really Hyatt? 42 inch plasma and no friggen HD? I couldn't even watch TV because of the crappy quality of it. After a nice long day of exploring the city, coming back to your hotel at 10pm and watching some TV is great. But..couldn't do it. Anyway. 3/5 stars. The staff was nice and whatnot, but, as the other reviewers stated as well, a $22 "resort" fee is stupid. I wouldn't stay here again in Monterey.

Mediocre. It's about half as nice as the typical Hyatt and 50% more expensive. The layout is motel style too. Walls and ceilings are rice paper thin.

First off I would like to say, the staff and the grounds are top notch! The thing that keeps this hotel from being four stars, as it was purported to be, is the fact that there is no air conditioning. No air conditioning would probably not have been a big deal had we been on a lower floor. But being as how we were on the highest floor, the third floor, it was quite warm. We left the window open all night, but as we were on the side of the hotel closest to the freeway it was quite noisy. They did however bring me a box fan when I requested a fan on the second day so they were very accommodating. And it was more comfortable. So my advise, don't stay on the freeway side of the hotel.

I've planned events here before and it's so accommodating. After having a recent extensive remodel the lobby is looking great, the food is great even for events, service is perfect, the golf course makes you really feel in the middle of beautiful Monterey. I stayed at one of their suites and these are super spacious, great beds, could improve the decor but it works for the area. Also, the Marilyn Monroe Spa is brand new and totally worth checking out.

it was too hot,no air conditioning and there was a sign saying " open sliding door to let the Monterey breezy weather cool you down", so i tried doing it but that was even worse considering the fact that the hotel is right next to freeway so it was to loud. For almost $ 300.00 a night I expected more,at least a freaking air conditioning.

Not worth the money. The rooms are old and need a remodel. The walls are really thin and so you can hear your neighbors gettin it on loudly in the next room while you try to sleep.
