Based in Colorado, Maddie Brenneman is a fly fishing guide with a strong passion for conservation. An avid traveler, she jumps at any opportunity that allows her to travel to new places. Maddie loves teaching people not only how to fish, but also how to respect and value them. She first discovered her passion for fishing while spending childhood summers at a cottage in Canada with her family. Maddie would fish endlessly off the dock, filling up an entire bucket of little fish. Once it was full, she'd dump it out, and do it all over again. Although she enjoys all forms of fishing, she loves fly fishing the most because of the challenge it presents. It has become a huge part of her life that she hopes to share with others.Check out Maddies instagram and give her a follow@maddiebrenneman

Ignacio high school students: Youth Suicide Study Focus Group
by Health Management Associates
As you may be aware, La Plata County is experiencing one of the highest rates of youth suicide in Colorado. As one of several responses to this alarming trend, the Colorado Office of the Attorney General/Office of Community Engagement is partnering with the Office of Suicide Prevention at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment on a project to better understand the youth suicide trend in Colorado and inform strategies for prevention. Health Management Associates, Inc. (HMA), a national research and consulting firm with an office based in Colorado, is being engaged to lead the work on this project.
The primary goal of the project is to support communities in developing local solutions to prevent youth suicide.
Central to the project will be focus groups with community members in each of the four counties, with the help of local public health departments. The focus groups will help to identify needs, gaps, strengths, key partners, and community-specific efforts and concerns to inform prevention priorities and strategies for each unique community.
From April 16th-20th, HMA is conducting focus groups with individuals in La Plata County from the following groups:
• Parents 8-10 participants per group
• Youth High school only, grades 9-12 8-10 participants per group High school students must have a consent form signed by a parent or guardian in order to participate. Please use the contact information below to obtain a consent form if you have not already received one. Thank you.
• School staff teachers, counselors, nurses, etc. 10-12 participants per group
• School administrators principals, superintendents, directors, etc. 10-12 participants per group
